About The Position

The field of human services provides meaningful work. What you do has a purpose, and you know it directly impacts and contributes to an individual’s well-being while supporting the development of more inclusive communities which benefit everyone. Calgary Alternative Support Services (CASS) recognizes that the people we employ are our single greatest asset. We endeavour to recruit and mentor human service professionals with talent and commitment for disability advocacy and community engagement. We have one (1) Supportive Neighbour position available in the South Calgary, Okotoks area. A vehicle is required for this position. This posting closes on June 3, 2026. A Supportive Neighbour (SN) is a support model in which a client is supported on an on-call basis in their own home, and the SN is classified as a contractor. The contractor is not an employee and therefore does not receive the same benefits as CASS employees, such as vacation time, health benefits or employment insurance contributions. SNs will receive a T4A tax form each year, must declare their income and are responsible for all taxes payable. The SN position provides supports to an adult with a developmental disability living in their own home. The type of support that the SN provides to the client depends on the individual's support needs. Clients will identify their goals in their Individual Support Plan (ISP) meetings and SN will assist them in achieving these goals. Support can include, but is not limited to, home maintenance, grocery shopping, medical appointments, reminders, community inclusion and advocacy. The client and Supportive Neighbour will live within an acceptable distance of each other to ensure expedient and accessible contact to supports, especially in the case of emergency. This position requires ongoing and constant flexibility from the support provider.
