About The Position

The Supportive Housing Worker position will report to the Housing Coordinator or their designate who in turn will report to their Department Director. The Supportive Housing Worker, under the management of the Housing Coordinator, will undertake the objectives of Rita Thompson Enhanced Supportive Housing, building community, working with marginalized population. The Supportive Housing Worker position is a foundational role that ensures the daily and weekly routines of the enhanced housing program are maintained while supporting clients in meeting their basic needs (physical, emotional and mental health) working collaboratively with the case management team. Supportive Housing Worker are responsible for providing trauma – informed standards of care for the community. Some flexibility in working hours, to ensure coverage to support the team and needs of the program.

Requirements

  • University Degree/College Diploma in a Social Services program or related field. A combination of relevant experience and training will be considered.
  • Provide a recent Criminal Record Check for Vulnerable populations, have valid CPR Certification
  • Experience working in supportive housing, community shelters, or residential programs
  • Experience working within harm reduction environments and responding to substance use
  • Knowledge of the unique needs of individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment while fostering a sense of community and connection.
  • Daily food preparation and distribution
  • Ensure that resident care plans are adhered to
  • Work collaboratively with caseworkers to maintain and update resident care plans
  • Maintain professional development through participation in relevant training, participation in supervision and through Supportive Housing Worker performance evaluation plans
  • Participate in scheduled unit care, supporting with activities of daily living to assist in maintaining residents housing, and support residents in participating life skills to enhance engagement and build rapport, enabling them to maintain housing.
  • Weekly food contribution orders (Sysco)
  • Communicate any property or safety issues to Coordinator or their designate.
  • As requested, participate in residents case conferences and other obligations involving a resident.
  • Assist with program development and promotion as requested by the Supportive Housing Coordinator.
  • Consistently demonstrate best practices within trauma informed care.
