About The Position

Are you looking for an exciting summer job working with individuals with various abilities? Join our progressive non-profit organization this summer and get paid to grow your skills and expand your horizons! Temporary summer positions have the potential to become permanent in the fall. The position entails working within a support team in a day program/centre, community settings, or group home settings; assisting adults who may have physical, developmental, mental health issues, and/or acquired brain injuries. Applicants must possess exemplary communication skills, be compassionate and energetic, and be comfortable supporting individuals with various disabilities. The Canada Summer Jobs program duration is 6 weeks between July 20th to August 28th and requires applicants to meet the following eligibility criteria: be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Requirements

  • BC Care Aid Registered Number
  • Medication Administration Certificate from reputable school
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Negative TB test
  • Food Safe
  • First Aid/CPR C
  • Experience with Behavior Management
  • Experience with Personal Care
  • Experience with Medication Administration
  • At least 1-2 years of experience with various disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Working within a support team in a day program/centre, community settings, or group home settings; assisting adults who may have physical, developmental, mental health issues, and/or acquired brain injuries.
  • Knowledge and experience working with developmental, physical disabilities, mental health and behaviours
  • Ability to create a meaningful routine
  • Knowledgeable of creating independence vs. creating dependence
  • Following health care plans
  • Completing daily documentation
  • Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
  • Knowledge and experience with community integration and teaching life skills
  • Leisure recreation activities
