As a Substitute Teacher working with children ages 6 weeks to 3 years, you will provide staffing support, as needed, to our York and James City County centers, assist with developmentally appropriate care and education in a nurturing environment, foster growth in key developmental areas: social, emotional, nutritional, and physical, partner with families to support children’s learning and individual needs, and play a key role in our federally funded Early Head Start (EHS) program, supporting qualifying families with vital early learning services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience working with babies and young toddlers in group care, providing safe, healthy and responsive care giving and developmentally appropriate learning activities
  • Flexibility to travel to locations in York County and James City County
  • Flexibility to work on an as needed basis
  • Knowledge of child safety, nutrition, and inclusive early learning practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine love for working with children
  • Must be able to successfully complete child protective services and criminal background checks.
  • A successful completion of a TB Risk Assessment and health exam is required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Head Start Performance Standards and VA Child Care Licensing
  • Bilingual skills
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration Training (MAT)
  • Willingness to become an Assistant or Early Childhood Teacher upon credentialing
