About The Position

Welcome to the Application Operation Services (AOS) at Sun Life, where our focus is to provide a positive digital user experience that is seamless, available, and valuable for our Canadian and global business partners and clients. The Data &Analytics team provides support for: On Premise applications, to maintain and support processes in multiple Data Warehouses, Business Intelligence, Data Integration applications In the Cloud technologies, utilizing AWS for Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) We are looking for a candidate that is deeply curious and possesses the keenness to learn, develop and execute with excellence The Support Engineer on the Data & Analytics Operations team, is responsible for safeguarding our client’s data, by providing superior operational support both on premise and in the Cloud.

Requirements

  • Mainframe development experience is required to support the transition from project implementation to operational support.
  • Knowledge and experience with the tools to support several Data Warehouses (DW), from data ingestion to data consumption.
  • Technical and analytical abilities required to design, build, and maintain centralized repositories for historical and analytical data.
  • Ability to understand code logic to analyze and troubleshoot data consumption issues.
  • Ability to fix or enhance code on a daily basis.
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries, joins, and stored procedures to manipulate and analyze data.
  • Experience building and supporting ETL processes, data integration and pipelines.
  • Good business intelligence application experience to design, analyze, and format reports for clients.
  • Experience with Batch Operations including schedulers, failures and recovery.
  • Excellent analytical skills to dive into the processes we support to resolve complex data discrepancies or job failures.
  • ITIL knowledge for incident, problem and change management policies and processes.
  • Create and maintain superb technical documentation that will help support our poly-skilled team.
  • Excellent communication skills to support Project Teams, Operation teams and vendors.
  • Continuously monitor our environments to identify and implement operational improvement.
  • Possess an owner’s mindset which is critical to the success of the team.
  • Background or education in Computer or Data Science, Engineering, Software Development or IT Application/Technical support.
  • 2+ years experience developing in: Mainframe: TSO, ZEKE, JCL, COBOL
  • 2+ years experience developing in: ETL: Informatica, IDMC (Informatica Cloud), Master Data Management (MDM), AWS Glue
  • 2+ years experience developing in: Business Intelligence (BI): SAP Tools (Crystal, Universe Design)
  • 2+ years experience developing in: AI: GitHub Copilot
  • Must obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance through Sun Life.
  • Requires 24x7 support on a rotational basis.
  • Subject to Over Time.

Responsibilities

  • Safeguarding client’s data by providing superior operational support both on premise and in the Cloud.
  • Maintaining and supporting processes in multiple Data Warehouses, Business Intelligence, and Data Integration applications.
  • Supporting Cloud technologies, utilizing AWS for Enterprise Data Lake (EDL).
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting data consumption issues for Sun Life clients.
  • Fixing or enhancing code on a daily basis.
  • Building and supporting ETL processes, data integration and pipelines.
  • Designing, analyzing, and formatting reports for clients using business intelligence applications.
  • Managing Batch Operations including schedulers, failures and recovery.
  • Resolving complex data discrepancies or job failures.
  • Performing incident, problem, and change management according to ITIL policies and processes.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Communicating with Project Teams, Operation teams and vendors.
  • Continuously monitoring environments to identify and implement operational improvements.
