About The Position

Micah Projects is a community-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating justice and responding to injustice at various levels of society. They believe in the fundamental rights of every individual to housing, income, healthcare, education, safety, dignity, and community connection. Micah Projects offers a range of support and advocacy services to individuals and families. The Family Connections approach, developed over 25 years in the USA, focuses on prevention and intervention sciences to support families in reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors. This strength-based, systems-oriented approach involves in-home family support, tailored assessments, and outcome-driven service plans. The organization is seeking a dynamic and experienced Family Support and Advocacy Practitioner to join the Family Connection team. This role will provide in-home, tailored family support to families experiencing severe disadvantage, complex challenges, and a high risk of escalating child protection involvement. The program utilizes an adaptation of the Family Connections USA approach and the Common Assessment Tool. This is a full-time position at Level 4 of the SCHADS Award.

Requirements

  • Understanding of the issues faced by vulnerable families, including those at risk of or experiencing child safety involvement, domestic & family violence, poverty, substance misuse issues and homelessness.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and an ability to assess risk using a strengths-based approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families in crisis and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals, using a variety of evidence-based intervention strategies.
  • Sound knowledge of childhood development and experience in delivering parenting support.

  • Use of the Micah Projects Family Connections approach and tools.
  • Build family capacities to keep children well and safe.
  • Use the tools and processes and approaches developed by Micah Projects Family Connections Program for planned support.
  • Maintain a high quality of work with individuals and families as evidenced by well-documented case notes and support plans using our service record system.
