About The Position

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for managing supplier programs for manufacturing, packaging, and other operational processes, as well as ensuring that quality programs are in compliance with regulatory requirements. This role also involves participating in problem-solving teams, conducting process audits, and managing product quality objectives related to the manufacturing process. The primary goal is to assess quality and ensure all products are free from defects and comply with engineering and manufacturing specifications and government standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and good knowledge of GD&T.
  • Ability to use different tools from the Quality toolbox to solve problems.
  • Capacity to work independently with general supervision (must be self-motivated once given direction/guidance).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with all levels of personnel and management, both internal and external, in a manner that creates cooperation and a one-team mentality.
  • Ability to perform inspections using common measuring equipment and devices, such as gauges, micrometers, and other measuring equipment.
  • Exhibit good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint and ability to process numbers quickly to produce charts or other documents.
  • Must be able to prepare and maintain controlled documents for the QMS.
  • Ability to deal with multiple changes and respond quickly to a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform duties in an assertive, hands-on manner, with good attention to detail.
  • Good Project/Time Management Skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and obtain results working within strict time frames.
  • Must possess good analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Shall possess a basic understanding of statistical concepts.
  • The ability to be a fast learner with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must exhibit good interpersonal skills and promote and be a “Team” player.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to a metal fabrication and welding operation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor current supplier quality performance through Supplier Score cards and other processes.
  • Manage the SCAR’s program, including issuing SCARs and ensuring they are returned, completed correctly, and validated.
  • Coordinate between engineering, production personnel, and Quality Engineer to solve production quality issues created by the Supplier.
  • Maintain constant communication with suppliers to ensure all quality requirements are being met (e.g., Heat Cert, DoC, packaging standard).
  • Review new changes to current approved parts (requested internally/externally).
  • Request, monitor, and approve new PPAPs on new revision designs of a part or new part numbers for current approved suppliers.
  • Engage with suppliers and Supply Chain to help correct supplier behavior if possible, and if not, bring it to upper management's attention to initiate switching to a second supplier for that part.
  • Coordinate with Design Engineering about new products and new components.
  • Coordinate with Quality Engineer to ensure if the customer needs to be notified of new part design changes.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain (local and/or global) & Engineer on new component supplier qualifications and any new supplier approvals.
  • Manage the New Supplier approval process according to the QMS.
  • Ensure that supplier PPAP documents for new or revised parts are submitted, evaluated, validated, and approved before approval is given.
  • Ensure QMS documents reflect the new supplier or new parts reflect the new supplier part requirements.
  • Question the nature of defects while providing future solutions.
  • All other duties as assigned.
