About The Position

This internship provides an opportunity to become familiar with Cape Cod Healthcare's Purchasing and Supply Chain departments and their operating systems. Interns will gain an understanding of system operating parameters, the functionality and capabilities of the Peoplesoft Finance and Supply Chain system, and make recommendations for increasing efficiency. Responsibilities include analyzing logged data for expired items, understanding Value Analysis Teams by shadowing the Manager of VA, and learning about contract management by shadowing the Senior Manager of Contracts. The intern will also learn about Life Safety, NFPA, and Joint Commission preparedness with the Director of Supply Chain Operations, and understand the procure-to-pay processes with the Purchasing Manager. Partnering with clinical staff and inventory technicians will provide insight into the impact of supply chain management on patient care. Independent project work, including data collection and analysis, is also a key component. The role requires providing service excellence to all stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Actively enrolled in Degree program
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with a high attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with Cape Cod Healthcare Purchasing and Supply Chain departments and its operating systems.
  • Understand operating parameters of systems and their necessity.
  • Understand the functionality and capabilities of the Peoplesoft Finance and Supply Chain system.
  • Make recommendations to systems to increase efficiency and/or operational ease.
  • Analyze logged data for expired item quantities and dollar value, including efficiency calculations and recommendations for additional reporting needs.
  • Understand operations including the Value Analysis Teams by shadowing the Manager of VA, attending meetings, taking minutes, researching competitive products, and creating evaluation criteria for pilot programs.
  • Shadow Senior Manager of Contracts to review and understand standard terms and conditions, learning to minimize risk and take a first pass at redlining contracts.
  • Understand and utilize the functionality of Cape Cod Healthcare’s GPO and Corporate Contract Management Systems.
  • Learn aspects of Life Safety, NFPA and Joint Commission preparedness, as well as local and state site inspections and preparedness, with the Director of Supply Chain Operations.
  • Review and shadow with the Purchasing Manager for all aspects of the procure to pay processes, including requisitioning, purchase order management, invoice exceptions, and product recall management.
  • Partner with clinical staff (nurses, physicians) and inventory technicians during shadowing rotations to understand the impact of supply chain management on direct patient care.
  • Work independently on assigned projects, which may include collecting and analyzing data, tracing and documenting operating systems, and researching products.
  • Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
