About The Position

Olympic Steel is seeking a Supply Chain Manager for its Buford, GA fabrication facility. This role is crucial for leading purchasing and materials management processes to maximize competitive position and return on assets. The manager will oversee daily purchasing activities, develop strategic plans aligned with sales, marketing, and quality requirements, and ensure customer needs are met. This includes developing and implementing inventory plans and budgets, collaborating with other departments and external contacts, and defining material acquisition and inventory management objectives. The position also involves product and supplier planning, communicating best practices with supply chain peers, coordinating strategy and execution across departments, and acting as a knowledge resource for supply chain matters. The role is responsible for all quoting and selection activities, managing the Logistics Coordinator to meet freight needs, creating and executing the supply chain/purchasing/inventory strategy, and managing overall spend within budget. Additionally, the manager will develop and implement standard operating procedures, work instructions, and maintain system documents, with a strong understanding of ERP systems.

Requirements

  • 4 yr Degree in Business, Engineering, or Purchasing from an Accredited University
  • 5+ years of related experience, preferably with Supervisory experience
  • Experience in the metal fabrication or related industry (Burning, press brakes, Machining, orbital Welding)
  • 5+ years of Purchasing Experience (Metals)
  • Skilled in inventory management
  • Understanding of Logistics and Transportation Management
  • Knowledge and/or Skills of Lean Six Sigma tools (DMAIC)
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications, notably Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Knowledge of computerized document control
  • Ability to problem solve and organize large amounts of data
  • Skilled in customer service and communication
  • Skilled in various ERP systems, understanding at a high level how they work

  • Large OEM experience in Purchasing or Supplier Management/Supply Chain

Responsibilities

  • Leads the crucial processes of purchasing and materials management by maximizing the competitive position and the return on assets
  • Manages the day-to-day activities of the purchasing function
  • Develops short and long-term plans that support the Sales, Marketing, and Quality requirements of the division
  • Ensures that specific customer requirements are achieved
  • Develops and implements inventory plans and budgets and conducts business and necessary with other departments, divisions, and external contacts
  • Defines material acquisition, in inventory management objectives and develops product and supplier planning
  • Communicates with Company Supply Chain Peers to identify and implement best practices
  • Coordinate with various departments on strategy and execution
  • Acts as a training resource to other departments for Supply Chain Knowledge
  • Responsible for all quoting and selection activities
  • Manage the Logistics Coordinator to ensure adequate freight needs are met
  • Will create and execute on the Supply Chain/Purchasing/Inventory Strategy
  • Responsible for effective management of overall spend in line with budgets
