About The Position

The Supply Chain Loader/Unloader is responsible for learning and performing various tasks related to the movement and storage of materials. This includes operating forklift trucks to unload bales of waste paper from trucks and railcars, stacking waste paper in the warehouse, and loading rolls of paper onto trucks and railcars. The role also involves maintaining warehouse cleanliness and orderliness, and learning to identify different grades of paper and contaminants. The position requires adherence to all safety rules and active participation in safety programs. Continuous improvement is expected through understanding standard work and participating in initiatives like 5S.

Requirements

  • Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements for each position.
  • Must know, understand, and follow all applicable model programs plus general plant, department, and job specific safety rules.
  • Must be able to protect your own personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Must adhere to applicable responsibilities within the plant’s emergency response program.
  • Must actively participate in safety program components such as Safety huddles, USG stretching program, BBS, Take 5’s, incident investigations, inspections, and submission of safety improvement ideas.
  • Must be able to maintain proactive efforts to improve good housekeeping practices.
  • Must be able to prevent damage to company equipment and materials and report damages, incidents, and injuries immediately.
  • Complete LEAD training as required and all applicable advanced training courses.
  • Collaborate with direct supervisors and department leadership as well as Safety Team representatives.
  • Must be able to perform this job safely and actively participate in all safety programs.
  • Understand your surroundings and the potential dangers within your work areas.
  • Understand the (4) four categories of standard work and identify existing standards when supporting an area.
  • Complete 5S LEAD training and support housekeeping initiatives using 5S principles: Sort, Set-in-Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.
  • Must know and practice all applicable plant and department safety rules, and all job safety analysis (JSA's).
  • Must demonstrate the ability to properly follow lock-out and operating procedures of the department as set forth in the Plants Operating Manual and JSA's.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to immediately report to your Supervisor any unsafe condition or defective equipment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to immediately report to your Supervisor any and all accidents.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to keep areas assigned to you and everything you work with clean and orderly at all times.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to properly maintain a satisfactory level of housekeeping the assigned workstation.
  • Must be able to read, and write and use a computer and read a tape measure.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to learn how to safely operate the Plants Fork lifts and Clamp Truck as a licensed mobile equipment operator.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • No significant performance/ attendance infractions within the last 36 months.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and operate forklift trucks.
  • Unload bales of waste paper from trucks and railroad cars.
  • Stack waste paper in the warehouse in an orderly manner.
  • Load rolls of paper onto trucks and railcars.
  • Place or stack rolls of paper in the finished paper warehouse.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the warehouses.
  • Pick up and safely dispose of broken bands and bale wires.
  • Cut wires that are sticking out of bales of waste paper.
  • Clean and sweep the warehouse and the docks.
  • Enter paper roll data and/or waste paper data into computers.
  • Assist in loading and unloading of trucks and railcars.
  • Learn the various grades of waste paper.
  • Learn the various grades of finished rolls of paper.
  • Learn the various contaminants in waste paper.
  • Perform all other duties as instructed by Loading/Unloading Supervisor and the Supply Chain Manager.
