About The Position

We are automating construction end to end to usher in a new era of abundance and beauty in the physical world in the coming decades. Over the past fifty years, the West’s ability to design and build large scale infrastructure has atrophied, and the entire industry has become less productive. With decaying infrastructure, power shortages, and an aging workforce, the only way through is to hyper-scale development with technology at a rate never before seen. Our team believes that this is the most important work of our lives, and there’s no more significant place to spend our time than on solving these problems. We believe in the sacrifices that we must make to achieve our mission and build a world of abundance. We believe the future can be amazing, but only if we work gut-wrenchingly hard to make it so. Our work is bigger than all of us, and our obsession with manifesting is what drives us. Roughly 50% of our team are former founders, and we strive for technical excellence, but quell our egos to ensure that the best ideas always win. We acknowledge the long and arduous path ahead to achieve our ambitions; that many of the most difficult challenges have yet to even be revealed to us; that the chance of failure is not only possible, but likely. Most of all, we believe that there is no other option: we will either revolutionize how humanity builds or die trying. We're hiring our first full-time supply chain team member. We already serve as Engineer of Record on roughly $10B of capital projects across utility-scale energy and data center infrastructure, and that number is growing fast. Every one of those projects depends on transformers, switchgear, inverters, structural steel, cable, and the factories that make them. This person will lead our engagement with that supply chain. This isn't procurement the way an EPC does it: put out RFPs, collect bids, place orders, chase everyone onto the same page. We think about it the way the best high-growth product companies do, as a supply chain we build, foster, and actively work to improve. There's no silver bullet. It's a thousand lead bullets: deep relationships built on trust, being the best customer our partners have, and constantly finding ways to move faster together. Most manufacturers in this industry are built for today's pace. The projects we design will ask for far more, far faster. The job is to make sure our suppliers understand the scale of demand that is coming and get ready for it. You'll work closely with our engineering team, understand what they need, and help our suppliers optimize around rate so they can deliver capacity well beyond what they're used to. We are early. There is no procurement department and no established process, and we're not looking for someone to build a bureaucracy. Anything repetitive in this job should be aggressively automated with AI, and we'll expect you to drive a lot of that (after we ramp you up on the building blocks). This role is in-person in San Francisco, CA and will include travel to suppliers, factories, and job sites.

Requirements

  • Led supply chains for complex industrial equipment and systems, ideally in energy or construction.
  • Understand how a factory actually works: capacity, throughput, lead times, and what it really takes to add a line or a shift.
  • Think about rate, not just the next order; helped a supplier, or own operation, scale output well past where it started.
  • Suppliers trust you, they pick up when you call, and they tell you the truth about their constraints.
  • Ability to translate what engineers need into something a factory can build, and what a factory can build into something engineers can design around.
  • Automate everything repetitive with AI, or be on that ramp and able to show it.
  • Mission alignment and desire to build a future of abundance.
  • 5 to 20 years in supply chain, sourcing, procurement, or manufacturing operations for energy, construction, or other complex industrial systems.

Nice To Haves

  • An engineering background is a plus.
  • Existing relationships with manufacturers of transformers, switchgear, inverters, trackers, or other long-lead energy equipment.
  • Experience standing up or scaling manufacturing capacity, at a supplier or an OEM.
  • Supply chain experience at a fast-scaling hardware product company (automotive, aerospace, robotics, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Lead our engagement with the supply chain for transformers, switchgear, inverters, structural steel, cable, and the factories that make them.
  • Build, foster, and actively work to improve the supply chain.
  • Develop deep relationships with suppliers built on trust.
  • Be the best customer our partners have.
  • Constantly find ways to move faster together with suppliers.
  • Ensure suppliers understand the scale of demand coming and get ready for it.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to understand their needs.
  • Help suppliers optimize around rate to deliver capacity well beyond what they're used to.
  • Aggressively automate repetitive tasks with AI.
  • Drive AI automation initiatives after ramp-up.
  • Travel to suppliers, factories, and job sites.
