About The Position

The Supply Chain (Operational Documentation) Intern role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is a paid, full-time, temporary position designed to help students develop a broad knowledge of the Company and build the OSJL brand. Specifically, this Supply Chain Intern (Operational Documentation) role focuses on the physical side of warehouse operations, specifically designing efficient workflows and researching best practices for processes. By creating visual maps and standard procedures, the role will bridge the gap between system logic and floor execution to ensure a safe, clear, and seamless transition for the shipping team.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program is required, with strong academic credentials.
  • Experience and interest in process improvement and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to visualize and document complex processes.
  • Experience using Microsoft Suite and the ability to learn and use Google platforms.
  • Ability to dedicate full attention to documentation and process review to support the physical execution team.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule.
  • Must have reliable transportation to attend program educational experiences at different Company locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in process mapping software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop visual maps of operational and outbound palletizing workflows to establish best practices (e.g., cartons vs. pallets) and support team training and implementation.
  • Research and document automated palletizing best practices to ensure operational clarity and process consistency.
  • Streamlining the travel path for loaders to reduce "criss-crossing" and accidents by assigning specific doors to specific stores.
  • Document new process flows required by the MAWM system to ensure operational clarity.
  • Draft and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the physical execution of the system launch.
  • Ensure thorough documentation is in place to reduce the risk of operational errors during the rollout.
  • Prepare and deliver a final presentation to OSJL executive leadership and ownership at the conclusion of the program, summarizing key projects, insights, and achievements.
  • Participate in weekly educational programming and development workshops designed to enhance professional skills and industry knowledge.
  • Attend in-person and virtual events to build relationships across the Company.
  • Shadow associates to gain an understanding of department roles and assist with projects in furtherance of department objectives.
  • Acquire an understanding of the business environment, conduct, compliance, and ethics of a retail organization.
