Supplier Quality Engineer – Global Propulsion Systems

About The Position

Act as the technical liaison between GM purchasing, product engineering, manufacturing, and our supply base. Work with the suppliers to resolve supplier manufacturing and quality issues, implement, and monitor advanced product quality planning systems, and provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of a deck of GPS parts. Assure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and product PPAP submission and approval requirements. Review and approve supplier quality plans (Control Plans, PFMEA) for new components and assemblies for new GPS (ICE and EV) components. Onsite reviews of supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems. Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues. Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of correction actions of supplier quality issues. Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes (PPAP, Run-at-Rate). Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust quality system, or other technical support as required. Provide technical assistance during supplier launch, change-over and ongoing production activities. Up to 50% of domestic and international travel required. Hybrid Work Policy - 3 days In-office, 2 days remote - Must be able to report to local office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, related field of study
  • Two years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, Defect Engineer, or related role.
  • Two years of experience with: Fundamental supplier quality processes including APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process); Print reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function; Geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T); Probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments; Microsoft project with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; Constraint management- Critical Path Analysis; and Quality standard IATF 16949.
  • One year of experience with: Investigating quality problems and applying technical solutions through 5 why/8D methodology; and Data Analysis.
