Supplier Quality Engineer

About The Position

The Supplier Quality Engineer will support Purchasing to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and that appropriate and timely corrective actions are implemented. This role involves maintaining and updating the critical supplier audit system and schedule, conducting supplier audits to drive process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement. The engineer will monitor, communicate, and improve supply chain performance, including Supplier OTD (Past due), Quality, and communication. Key responsibilities include promoting problem-solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers, resolving supplier technical issues, and supporting Purchasing in developing long-term supplier relationships. The role also involves aiding Engineering/Manufacturing in the evaluation and qualification of new supplier materials (PPAP) and driving a “Zero Defects” mentality within the supply base. The engineer will also analyze and log MCN and MCN debits.

  • Knowledge of various quality system methodologies 8D, Lean, 5 Why’s, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, 8-D, DFMEA, PFEMA, PPAP, etc.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must work well with diverse groups of people and be able to function independently of direct supervision
  • Must have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with Supply Base, HAV’s Engineering, Quality, and other plant and office personnel
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and process several abstract and concrete variables
  • Must be able to assess reasonableness of the analysis performed
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering and 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have good computer skills with a working knowledge of Excel, Word, Lotus, MAPICS

  • Support Purchasing in developing long-term supplier relationships
  • Aide Engineering/Manufacturing in the evaluation and qualification of new supplier materials (PPAP) following a defined new product development process
  • Drive “Zero Defects” mentality within the supply base
  • Analyze and log MCN and MCN debits
