About The Position

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that their area of responsibility adheres to IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, and International Operating System (YF IOS) requirements. This role involves initiating and leading Management Quality Review (MQR) processes for underperforming suppliers, developing and maintaining systems to verify incoming product quality, and managing incoming inspection and containment activities. The position also requires managing the nonconforming material area, documenting and managing supplier issues in the company’s system (IQS, QMS), and ensuring suppliers complete yearly validation requirements. Additionally, the role involves working with suppliers to improve performance through problem-solving techniques and statistical methods, assuring corrective and preventive actions are effective, and interacting with various internal departments and suppliers to enhance component quality. Communication and management of supplier change requests (SCR) and PPAP submissions are also key responsibilities, along with executing supplier site visits to assess processes. The role also includes communicating plant performance goals and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Level Degree in Manufacturing Quality or similar. Equivalent work experience may also be considered for certain positions.
  • 3-5 Minimum Years of Experience in quality engineering, supplier quality or manufacturing engineering.
  • 1-3 Minimum Years of Experience within the automotive industry.
  • Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants which might require climbing, lifting, or working in confined spaces.

  • Ability to maintain predictable and regular attendance, arrive to designated location on time, or be at assigned location ready to work for assignment (plant, corporate office, or remote).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that area of responsibility follows IATF 16949, VDA 6.3 as applicable and International Operating System (YF IOS) requirements.
  • Initiate and lead appropriate Management Quality Review (MQR) processes for problematic suppliers.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain systems used to verify incoming product conformance to accepted quality standards.
  • Manage incoming inspection and containment activities as required.
  • Manage the nonconforming area to ensure quarantined material related to external supplied components is transacted appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Document and manage supplier issues (e.g., SMRR, SCB, Supplier Containment Notification, etc.) in the company’s system (IQS, QMS) in a timely manner.
  • Ensure YF Suppliers are completing yearly validation requirements and storing information in the YFAI system.
  • Continually work with suppliers to improvement performance by applying problem solving techniques (e.g., 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, KT etc.) and statistical methods.
  • Assure corrective and preventive action plans are developed, executed and effective at assigned suppliers, if required an on-site supplier visit.
  • Interact routinely with production personnel, Plant Quality Engineers, Plant Process Engineers, Purchasing, Engineering and Suppliers to improve quality of supplied components.
  • Communicate and manage supplier’s change requests (SCR) with the plant quality and processing teams or PPAP Coordinator.
  • Request, review and process supplier PPAP submissions for all supplier relevant Engineering and process changes, if applicable.
  • Execute visits to supplier sites to assess, review and verify supplier processes to YFAI requirements, if applicable.
  • Communicate plant performance goals with YFAI direct reports.
