About The Position

We were founded in 1918 as Young & Franklin Tool Works on Franklin Street in Syracuse, but we’ve come a long way since then! Our product lines are low volume, high mix, and very tight tolerances. We manufacture, assemble and test valves and actuators for the Aerospace and Power Generation markets. Our 120,000 square foot facility houses R&D, Design Engineering, Assembly & Test, and an 80,000 square foot Machine Shop. We regularly invest in new machines but outdid ourselves in the last 18 months with 5 new machines! Requirements

  • This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization.
  • Candidates should have extensive hands-on experience in all facets of the product quality discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, aerospace or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in quality control, supplier management, or a similar role, with knowledge of auditing, testing, and inspection methods.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems, statistical analysis, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills to effectively interact with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Extensive working knowledge of aerospace material specifications, processes and practices is strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in structured problem solving, prevention, and implementing irreversible corrective actions.
  • ASQ Certification, e.g. ASQ, CQM, CQE, CQA.
  • Training and/or certification as a quality auditor.
  • Familiarity with APQP and PPAP processes and requirements.
  • Fluency in ISO900, AS9100 quality system
  • Able to travel to supplier locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in precision machining a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement processes and metrics that enable ongoing measurement of supplier performance, consistent with, and in support of YFT’s product reliability/quality objectives.
  • Determine appropriate quality measures for new and existing supplier materials and performance.
  • Facilitate the evaluation of materials supplied by third-party organizations, as well as related processes and performance.
  • Play a key role in supplier selection and onboarding from a quality perspective.
  • Lead efforts to address scrap issues with vendors and drive overall scrap reduction
  • Develop and execute comprehensive supplier audit plans and recommend improvements to strengthen quality processes across the supply chain. Hold suppliers accountable for quality issues and drive timely corrective actions.
  • Partner closely with Purchasing and Engineering to ensure suppliers consistently meet quality standards.
  • Establish and implement methodologies and tools to ensure early identification of potential problems with new and existing supplier products and processes.
  • Serve as the key technical resource on supplier quality to internal cross functional design teams and customers.
  • Apply theory and real life experience to address supplier quality issues that arise throughout a program lifecycle.
  • Lead the investigation of and resolution of supplier quality/performance deficiencies. Design and implement failure analyses and related techniques as required.
  • Conduct on-site audits to verify supplier compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements, and assess supplier capabilities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance protocols and control plans for supplier materials.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to identify, analyze, and resolve quality issues, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Track supplier performance using quality metrics and key performance indicators, and report findings to management.
  • Collaborate with procurement, production, engineering, and R&D teams to ensure supplier materials meet design and production requirements.
  • Lead initiatives to improve supplier processes, enhance product quality, and implement preventive measures.
  • Document and maintain supplier quality records, ensure adherence to ISO 9001, AS9100, or other relevant standards, and manage supplier qualification and certification processes.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
