About The Position

Applied Materials is seeking a machining-focused professional to help drive supplier quality, manufacturability, and performance for precision machined components. In this role, you will work closely with engineering, new product introduction, and suppliers to ensure critical parts meet technical, quality, cost, and delivery expectations throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with machining processes, precision manufacturing, engineering drawings, tolerancing, and quality requirements for machined components
  • Ability to assess supplier capability and apply best practices that improve manufacturability, cost, quality, and delivery
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, new product introduction, sourcing, and supplier teams
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex machining and supplier manufacturing issues using analytical thinking and data-driven corrective action
  • Understanding of machining cost drivers, supplier performance metrics, and process capability improvement
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical requirements and influence process improvement across teams and suppliers
  • Experience working directly with suppliers, including supplier development, audits, performance management, and escalation support
  • Hands-on experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions, using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 8D, 5‑Why, fishbone)
  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret data to identify trends, support decisions, and drive corrective and preventive actions
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical data, analysis, and recommendations to cross‑functional teams and leadership
  • PFMEA experience particularly related to machining or manufacturing processes

Nice To Haves

  • DMAIC comprehensive process improvement methodology is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate technical requirements for new and existing products with a strong focus on machined components and manufacturing processes.
  • Using your knowledge of machining methods, materials, tolerances, and supplier capabilities, you will help identify solutions that improve cost, lead time, durability, and overall manufacturability.
  • Partner with product development teams to ensure machining-related drawing requirements are complete and clearly defined, including GD&T, surface finish, tolerance stack-ups, critical dimensions, and material specifications.
  • Support new product introduction efforts by engaging suppliers early in the development and review of machined part specifications, helping ensure designs are manufacturable, processes are capable, and production can scale effectively.
  • Help build and develop a machining supply base that delivers strong performance in quality, cost, delivery, technical capability, and capacity for precision machined parts.
  • Lead supplier technical audits focused on machining process capability, inspection methods, equipment, fixturing, and process discipline, and you will work with suppliers to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead problem-solving efforts for machining-related quality issues, including dimensional nonconformance, surface finish defects, material discrepancies, and process variation, using root cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Support cost planning by tracking key machining cost drivers such as material utilization, cycle time, setup complexity, tooling, secondary operations, and yield.
