About The Position

Amprius Technologies is seeking an experienced Supplier Development Engineer that will be instrumental in ensuring the quality, capability, and reliability of our lithium-ion battery cell and component suppliers. This role involves deep collaboration with both internal engineering/quality teams and external supplier partners to develop, implement, and maintain world-class manufacturing processes and quality systems.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in supplier development, quality engineering, or manufacturing engineering within the Lithium-Ion Battery sector (cell or pack level).
  • Demonstrated expertise in quality tools (e.g., FMEA, MSA, SPC, DoE) and auditing standards (e.g., VDA, ISO 9001/IATF 16949). Experience with ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality standards.
  • Deep understanding of cell manufacturing processes (electrode coating, cell assembly, formation) or key battery components (anode/cathode materials, separators, electrolytes).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 40% of the time to supplier sites in South Korea, US, and Europe.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Korean is a plus, given the global supply chain.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the selection, qualification, and ongoing development of suppliers for new battery cell chemistries and components.
  • Conduct on-site audits at potential and existing supplier facilities to assess manufacturing processes, quality management systems, and technical capabilities.
  • Lead the development and approval of APQP/PPAP (Advanced Product Quality Planning / Production Part Approval Process) packages to ensure components meet strict specifications.
  • Implement continuous improvement programs at supplier sites, utilizing tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and SPC (Statistical Process Control).
  • Lead supplier capacity analysis to drive in-depth, collaborative studies with key suppliers to identify bottlenecks, measure utilization, and establish clear scaling strategies.
  • Validate long term capacity expansion plans to ensure manufacturing strategies align with demand forecasts, technology roadmaps, and quality requirements.
  • Oversee manufacturing scale-up and qualification processes. Monitor pilot runs, execute successful ramp-ups, and ensures quality metrics are met before mass production.
  • Develop and implement robust manufacturing risk mitigation strategies with suppliers
  • Work closely with Design Engineering to influence product design for manufacturability (DFM) and quality.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between Amprius and the supplier's engineering and quality teams.
  • Facilitate joint problem-solving activities using 8D methodology to quickly address and permanently resolve quality issues.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on supplier performance, risk assessments, and development progress to internal stakeholders.

  • Comprehensive compensation package includes base salary + RSUs. Salary range for this role is $120,000 to $190,000. Base salary will be determined based on knowledge, experience, and education.
