We are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer – Battery based in San Francisco, CA who will provide end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for the battery systems that power OURA’s new and sustaining products. This includes battery cell development and qualification, assembly automation development and line bring-up, cell-to-pack integration into OURA’s ring form factors, new supplier bring up, and process technology R&D. This is a hybrid role, the candidate should be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to come into the San Francisco office 2-3 days per week.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of direct experience working in a battery or electromechanical manufacturing environment as a Supplier Development Engineer, Supply Base Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Cell/Battery Process Engineer, Supplier Industrialization Engineer or equivalent role
  • Experience with lithium-ion / lithium-polymer cell design, fabrication, and/or battery pack assembly and integration
  • Experience working with global suppliers to establish & qualify manufacturing processes from NPI to Mass Production
  • Experience bringing up and qualifying automated battery assembly lines and manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to analyze failure modes and identify process or design root causes
  • Familiarity with battery safety and regulatory standards (e.g. UN38.3, IEC 62133, UL 1642/2054) a plus
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Effectively communicate challenges to leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Ability to travel internationally, up to 15% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Define best-in-class battery cell, assembly, and integration processes to meet all OURA design, safety, and operational requirements
  • Partner with Battery/Electrical Engineers, Quality Engineers, Material Engineers, and Product Designers to optimize cell design and manufacturing processes for energy density, cost, cosmetics, and reliability
  • Identify, research, develop, and qualify battery cell suppliers, pack assemblers, and automation equipment manufacturers in support of OURA’s hardware development goals
  • Lead new battery assembly line and automation bring-up — from equipment specification and buy-off through installation qualification and production ramp
  • Drive suppliers globally to establish and optimize battery cell fabrication, assembly, and pack-integration processes, ensuring best-in-class quality & resolving production issues
  • Use data to drive process decisions and influence product and industrial design, including cell dimensions, capacity, tolerances and specifications
