About The Position

This position provides supplemental instructional intervention for students focused on improving literacy through the science of reading. Instruction will be delivered through push-in and pull-out services. The teacher will utilize evidence-based instructional strategies to support struggling students with the foundational skills for reading and comprehension, implementing the philosophies of the district, school, and the science of reading. The role also involves serving as a member of the school and district Integrated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (I-MTSS) teams, maintaining a conducive learning atmosphere, planning lessons, attending to student health and safety, and assisting with supervision, facilities, and record-keeping. The teacher will also provide individual assistance to students with their studies, personal matters, educational decision-making, and referral of learning disabilities. Continuous professional growth is expected through curriculum planning, professional development, and collaboration with staff and parents.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed teacher.
  • Must have completed the required science of reading professional learning modules.
  • Must have a PK-12 Reading Endorsement (#059902) appearing on the license.
  • Must have a Master’s or Doctoral degree in reading, with the degree containing the words “reading” or “literacy” in the degree name on the transcript as the major areas of study, specialization or concentration.
  • Must have received a passing score on the Foundations of Reading test (190).

Responsibilities

  • Provides supplemental instructional intervention for students focused on improving literacy through the science of reading.
  • Delivers instruction through push-in and pull-out services.
  • Utilizes evidence-based instructional strategies to support struggling students with the foundational skills for reading and comprehension.
  • Provides instructional strategies that implement the philosophies of the district, school and the science of reading.
  • Serves as a member of the school and district Integrated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (I-MTSS) teams for the purpose of determining placement of students within the I-MTSS model.
  • Maintains an atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
  • Plans lessons and implements activities that are congruent with the science of study and the skills of students.
  • Allows for student participation in designing and selecting appropriate classroom instructional activities.
  • Attends to the health, safety, and well-being of students.
  • Provides assistance in supervision of students in the curricular and co-curricular programs, both in and outside the school.
  • Provides assistance in the care of facilities and equipment.
  • Provides assistance in the preparation of records, reports, and student evaluations.
  • Provides individual assistance to students in their studies.
  • Provides individual assistance to students in their personal matters, when appropriate.
  • Provides individual assistance to students in educational decision-making.
  • Provides individual assistance in recognition and referral of learning disabilities.
  • Strives to improve her/his performance as a teacher through curriculum planning and development.
  • Strives to improve her/his performance as a teacher through professional meetings and visitations.
  • Strives to improve her/his performance as a teacher through professional development growth activities.
  • Strives to improve her/his performance as a teacher through selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials aligned with HQIM.

  • Cooperates with parents or guardians through individual and/or group conferences, parent-teacher organizations and such other meetings as may be advisable.
  • Seeks understanding of and supports the Plain Local educational program.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Principal within funding guidelines.
