About The Position

The ETSU College of Nursing, Department of Undergraduate Nursing, is currently seeking undergraduate students currently enrolled in the ETSU BSN program to provide supplemental instruction during the Summer 2026 semester for the following courses: NRSE 2016 NRSE 3010/3020 The supplemental instructors (SI) will work less than 30-hours per week providing tutor-like sessions that focus on active learning activities:

Requirements

  • Sophomore is the usual minimum educational level.
  • An overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) is required.
  • Content-competency (to be determined by the selected course faculty member) is required.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (to be determined by the SI Supervisor) are required.

Nice To Haves

  • A grade of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) in the selected course is preferred.
  • Prior enrollment with the faculty member who is to teach the selected course is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all class meetings OR listen to the faculty lectures prior to the SI Session.
  • Conduct at least one 60-to-90-minute SI session per week throughout the term using strategies learned through the SI Leader training workshop.
  • Regularly meet with the SI Supervisor for debrief sessions: Discuss observations of the SI sessions, Discuss the planning of SI sessions and use of a wide variety of learning strategies, Notify SI Supervisor about problems or potential problems.
  • Assist SI Supervisor in training other SI Leaders.
  • Behave in a professional manner at all times.
  • Provide extra SI sessions and/or marathon sessions as necessary (e.g., prior to examinations).
  • Ascertain course requirements and maintain contact throughout the term with course faculty member or designated representative.
  • Meet with other campus SI Leaders and Supervisory Staff at scheduled meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.
  • Complete necessary personnel paperwork.
  • Attend SI Leader training workshop prior to the beginning of each term.
  • Work with the SI Supervisor to select appropriate times and scheduling of SI sessions.
  • Make periodic announcements about the availability of the SI sessions to the students.
  • Ensure that the initial SI Survey, Midterm SI Feedback Survey and End-of-Course Survey are distributed and assist with data analysis.
  • Collect attendance data for every SI session, including student names, course title, date and time of session.
  • Assist SI Supervisor in the preparation of end-of-term reports and other reports as requested.
  • Maintain a professional attitude about matters such as class standards, grades, and student complaints.
  • Model appropriate professional attitudes and behaviors to staff, students and others.
  • Provide your SI Supervisor with an up-to-date schedule of your SI sessions.
  • Notify your SI Supervisor in advance if you cannot conduct an SI session as scheduled.
  • Maintain regular working hours.
  • Promote SI through the use of social media.
