About The Position

This is work primarily supervising and involving contact with Senior Citizens and the Elderly in support of related social services which serve these individuals. Work is performed under the direction of a higher level officer, but the employee is expected to function with considerable independence in providing assistance and service.

Requirements

  • Graduated from a recognized college or university supplemented by one (1) year of experience in social work, community organization, group work, or related field; OR Successful completion of two (2) full academic years of study in an accredited institution beyond the high school level which includes subjects relative to social or community work, or any closely related field plus three (3) years experience in social work, community organization, group work or any related field.
  • Knowledge of public and private agencies concerned with older persons and of facilities available for use in carrying out programs related thereto.
  • Knowledge of the community's social and economic structure and its effect on the aging.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of the laws, policies, and regulations pertaining to Senior Citizens.
  • Ability to develop and recommend programs and projects for improving conditions and community problems concerning older persons.
  • Ability to prepare written reports on the work of program.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely, and to communicate effectively with members of the particular group involved.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all persons contacted in the course of work.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises services that enable the Elderly to become more fully aware of the programs and benefits available to them, through the interpretation of laws, rules, policies, procedures and regulations as they pertain to Senior Citizens.
  • Supervises Outreach Programs which refer clients pertaining to Energy Programs, Housing Opportunities, Social Security Benefits, Pharmaceutical Assistant Program and other Senior Citizen Programs.
  • Supervises staff and community outreach workers in interviewing Senior Citizens within the community.
  • Interviews and observes clients and staff in various service agencies.
  • Provides Senior Citizens with Official Senior Citizen Identification Card for the purpose of obtaining senior discounts at various businesses.
  • Provides information to persons served concerning the program's services, requirements and procedures.
  • Provides referral information on community resources.
  • Performs other related work as required.
