About The Position

The Supervisory Paralegal position is a great opportunity for paralegals looking to develop their management skills in support of high visibility cases for the Department of Justice. You will gain invaluable litigation experience as a case may go through all or some of the phases of the EDRM spectrum, from intake/acquisition of documents and data through trial support, cases and investigations. Requirements

  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, an equivalent level of legal training or experience or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.
  • 3+ years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) including trial experience is required.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Must have supervisory experience, including proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys.
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important
  • DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US citizenship required)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises the work of paralegals and other support staff, particularly on major paralegal support efforts, such as large legal research projects or major in-courtroom support.
  • Performs complex legal and factual research utilizing Relativity and other eDiscovery software.
  • Receives significant task management and supervisory experience through the oversight of their team and in their delivery of quality work within strict deadlines in support of DOJ’s mission.
  • Enhances management and communication skills by interacting with staff and the DOJ case teams during the planning and execution of project requirements, schedules, and all litigation support activities.
  • Monitors work and reports on progress.
  • Ensures that paralegal and support staff work meets contract and attorney requirements and is delivered on time.
  • Troubleshoots and performs quality control spot-checks.
  • Formulates administrative and technical procedures for getting the work done.
  • Reports to Project Supervisor or Project Manager; may also have significant contact with COR, Government Case Manager, trial attorneys and staff, client agency staff, and opposing counsel.
  • Performs complex legal and factual research.
