About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Supervisory Paralegal to join our team supporting the Enforcement and Affirmative Litigation Branch at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC. As a Supervisory Paralegal you will be responsible for personnel oversight, performance management, workflow and process management, and contract and compliance administration. You will also serve as a point of communication between law clerks and EALB staff, organizing and leading team meetings, trainings, and Q&A sessions, and responding to attorney and supervisor inquiries regarding clerk performance and availability.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, an equivalent level of legal training or experience or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.
  • Must have supervisory experience, including proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully manage a team of Law Clerks and interact with EALB attorneys, EALB Branch Management and Amentum Senior Leadership.
  • At least three years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) including trial experience is required.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as Microsoft Office, document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
  • Must be able to formulate administrative and technical procedures for getting the work done.
  • Experience with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

Responsibilities

  • Directing and supervising the work of law clerks.
  • Supervise daily activities of contract law clerks to ensure alignment with DOJ and EALB standards.
  • Monitor workload distribution and reassign tasks as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Conduct weekly check-ins and monthly performance reviews.
  • Oversee quality control for work products submitted by law clerks to case teams.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and training to improve clerk productivity and accuracy.
  • Monitor work performance and status, and report on progress.
  • Escalate disciplinary issues or concerns to EALB Project Manager.
  • Utilize legal case management systems to monitor task assignments and document submissions.
  • Liaise with EALB Assistant Director to identify project and staffing requirements.
  • Report on project status and metrics to leadership on a weekly/monthly basis.
  • Review workflows (per case) for law clerk tasks to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Assign law clerks to case teams based on case complexity and clerks’ skill sets.
  • Ensure timely completion of legal research, case summaries, document reviews, cite checks, etc.
  • Review and validate daily productivity reports submitted by law clerks.
  • Coordinate with Amentum EALB Project Manager to ensure compliance with MEGA contract requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for audits, quality assurance, and reporting.
  • Serve as a point of contact between law clerks and EALB staff (Assistant Directors, Attorneys, Paralegals).
  • Organize and lead team meetings, trainings, and Q&A sessions.
  • Respond to attorney and supervisor inquiries regarding clerk performance and availability.
