About The Position

This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Tucson Field Office, Area Port of Douglas, Douglas Port of Entry, located in Douglas, Arizona. Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above. Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide advisory and technical services to management. This position starts at a salary of $108,455.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $140,994.00 (GS-13, Step 10). In this Supervisory Mission Support Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals analyzing and refining existing work methods and developing new methods and procedures.

  • Analyzing and resolving problems in the effectiveness and efficiency of administrative processes by reviewing procedures, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing approved changes.
  • Providing technical and administrative supervision to the unit.
  • Establishing and carrying out specific action plans for accomplishing short-term goals and objectives.
  • Devising new methods or procedures for accomplishing work to solve productivity problems.
  • Coordinating with other organizational supervisors and peers to establish unit objectives, goals, priorities, and deadlines, and to formulate plans to meet substantial changes in workload.
  • Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process
  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/12/2026.
  • Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
  • All newly appointed first-time CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training.

  • To be considered well qualified under CTAP, you must be rated at a minimum score of 85 for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising a group of administrative employees who are responsible for assessing the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of program operations or who analyze and resolve problems in the effectiveness and efficiency of administrative support and staff activities.
  • Providing complex administrative services, including, but not limited to, management and information systems, budget, finance, procurement, personnel, telecommunications, logistics, records and fi les, printing, mail, travel, and office equipment.
  • Providing representation for the office in dealings with vendors and organizations within the agency that have primary responsibility for these services.
  • Establishing and carrying out specific action plans or accomplishing short term goals and objectives.
  • Making decisions and resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS policy.
