About The Position

Provides leadership and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of high school and transition education, behavior management, curriculum development, program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment, and diagnosis. This role involves supervising and evaluating staff, coordinating professional development, and ensuring program activities meet student Individualized Education Plans (IEP) requirements. The Supervisor will also analyze situations, monitor student progress, and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Requirements

  • NJDOE Standard Supervisor Certification
  • Previous experience working with children with disabilities
  • Possess strong background knowledge and skills in Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Management, Positive Behavior Supports and evidence based instructional strategies
  • Knowledge of Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching
  • Ability to coordinate professional development
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, staff, parents and sending districts to assure smooth and efficient program activities that meet the needs of the student’s Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
  • Knowledge of applicable Special education laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
  • Analyze situations quickly and accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people
  • Must be NJ resident within one year from date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • NJDOE Principal CE preferred
  • Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher, Related Services Provider, or Child Study Team Member preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of high school and transition education, behavior management, curriculum development, program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment, and diagnosis.
  • Evaluate lesson plans and observe instruction on a regular basis.
  • Performs supervisory duties including but not limited to, informal walkthroughs, staff observations, summative evaluations, Student Growth Objectives (SGOs), and Professional Development Plans (PDPs).
  • Collaborates with staff, parents, and sending districts to meet the needs of students.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as needed.
  • Assists in identifying, planning, and delivering staff in-service programs as needed to enhance instructional strategies and implementation of behavior intervention.
  • Perform such duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Special Services and/or Building Principal.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
  • Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress of student programs towards educational goals and objectives.
  • Analyze issues related to educational plans, behavioral problems, educational needs, and activities.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Orientation and assistance for new staff members.
