About The Position

Cedars Sinai is seeking a Supervisor, Sterile Processing to assume responsibility and accountability for the application of clinical practice to the instrumentation and equipment used by clinicians in the care of hospitalized patients. This role involves demonstrating independent thinking and ability in directing the processing, maintenance, and dispensing of materials and equipment required by medical and nursing personnel for patient care, diagnosis, or treatment. The Supervisor will provide oversight of production and project flow through the Sterile Processing areas, maintain accurate records of process effectiveness and quality control parameters, and mentor and coach staff. This position is responsible for maintaining a consistent high standard of supplies, equipment, and surgical trays, ensuring the department meets or exceeds TJC requirements in a cost-effective manner. The Supervisor will possess excellent communication skills to articulate departmental goals and mission, solicit customer feedback for service improvement, and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies like the state Department of Health and TJC. They will work with the Safety office to conform to AQMD requirements, maintain records with regulatory agencies and institutional procedures, and direct overall activities including Human Resources standards and budget expense control. The role also involves assisting with departmental orientation for new hires, assessing staff learning needs, collaborating on training programs, developing and implementing performance improvement activities, establishing and maintaining inventory levels, and staying current with continuing education in Central Service operations and equipment. Additionally, the Supervisor will provide instruction on new products, procedures, and equipment, foster good working relationships with surgery and internal customers, collaborate on a preventative maintenance program and QC for patient equipment, and maintain documentation of all aspects of care performed within Sterile Processing. Participation as an active member of hospital committees is also expected.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required.
  • A minimum of 5 years demonstrated supervisory experience in Sterile Processing or Perioperative with proficiency in the maintenance, ordering and upkeep of sophisticated, and delicate equipment and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Articulate the goals and mission of the department while soliciting suggestions and comments from customers for improvement of services and performance.
  • Ensure that the standards of operation of the department are in compliance with the standards set by regulatory agencies, such as the state Department of Health, TJC, and others.
  • Work with Safety office to conform to AQMD requirements for review and analysis.
  • Maintain records with regulatory agencies and institutional procedures as well as departmental procedures.
  • Direct overall activities to include Human Resources standards and assist leadership with budget expense control.
  • Assist in providing a comprehensive departmental orientation to all new hires.
  • Assess learning needs of staff and collaborate with the SPD Educator to develop training programs on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop and implement departmental performance improvement activities and encourage ongoing staff participation.
  • Establish internal inventory levels and maintain levels in accordance with set standards and in coordination with user departments; establish par level stocks and monitor them for proper utilization.
  • Maintain continued education in the field of Central Service operations and equipment through education, literature, and seminars.
  • Provide instructions and in-service in new products, procedures, and equipment in a manner that will identify and prevent resource loss.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with surgery and all internal customers.
  • In collaboration with Central Issues, Financial Control, Clinical Engineering, establish a preventative maintenance program and QC for patient equipment and assist in maintaining adequate inventory of patient equipment to meet hospital use requirements.
  • Maintain documentation of all aspects of care performed within the scope of Sterile processing and regulated record maintenance.
  • Participate as an active member of hospital committees as assigned.
