About The Position

The New York County District Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for a Bi-lingual Spanish Speaking Supervisor in the Early Engagement Case Support Unit (EECU). In this position, the Bi-lingual Spanish Speaking Supervisor is responsible for daily oversight of the EECU, obtaining signed supporting depositions, assisting victims in understanding the criminal justice system, referring for advocacy and counseling services, provides information regarding crime victims’ rights in Spanish, while supporting the Early Engagement Case Support Unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Must possess high fluency in Spanish & English both oral and written
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
  • All candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise Specialized Engagement Specialists and non-specialized Engagement Specialists assigned to the Deputy Director; supervise PES, OPS, and the Unit Specialist in the absence of the Assistant Supervisor.
  • Assists with daily intake for CES staff
  • Monitors weekly intake schedule
  • Creates and manages the monthly staff remote/late-night/vacation calendars
  • Co-lead on all IT matters
  • Produces quarterly/annual reports on number of supporting depositions received via Specialized ES
  • Co-lead trainer of new EECU staff in the department
  • Translate complaints and supporting depositions to victims & witnesses and Complete and file the Affidavit of Translation (AOT) Form
  • Train new staff on the Affidavit of Translation (AOT) Form
  • Responsible for staff development (i.e. Talking Points), and staff interviewing
  • Consult with Deputy Director and Director on sensitive cases, or cases needing legal advisement
  • Is a member of the EECU management team
  • Assist EECU Director with special projects
  • Represent the Unit at DANY sponsored community events
  • Maintains a small caseload and contacts victims and witnesses to obtain a supporting deposition
  • Mail, fax, e-mail the supporting deposition to victims
  • Inform victims of the wide range of services available to them through SSB
  • Explain criminal justice system and provide case information, and ensure that clients are knowledgeable about their rights
  • Ensure follow-up is completed on all cases
  • Assist victims with orders of protection and registration for notification of inmate release
  • Liaise with victims and Assistant District Attorneys, and provide essential information
  • Ability to handle high caseload and set priorities.
  • Establish rapport, with each victim, in a professional customer service-related approach
  • Perform designated tasks under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated and able to multi-task
  • Responds promptly to incoming calls and e-mails, including the ‘rollover’ line and voicemails
  • Handle heavy volume of crisis and information calls and forward to the appropriate department of DANY/SSB
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up
  • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Professional interaction with all levels of staff, victims, witnesses and law enforcement personnel.
