About The Position

The Supervisor Social Worker on the Crisis Call Line holds administrative and supervisory responsibilities, providing clinical leadership for patient care and crisis management. The Supervisor Social Worker provides leadership in working with hospital staff and community partners, participates in formulating policy and establishing procedures, and assists in recruitment, hiring and onboarding activities for staff in the service. This role also provides direct clinical services, including crisis intervention, assessment, and referral services to individuals facing psychosocial and mental health concerns via the Crisis Line and Virtual Mental Health Urgent Care.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of Social Work and 2 years of professional social work practice required Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • LMSW - Licensed Medical Social Worker - State Licensure as defined by the State Board for Social Work, State Education department, Division of Professional Licensing Services upon hire required

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and clinical oversight, supervision, case consultation and discipline specific administrative supervision to Social Workers on the Crisis Call Line.
  • May provide interdisciplinary supervision, as well as performance management and evaluation of program staff.
  • Responds to incoming Crisis Call Line and Virtual Mental Health Urgent Care patients in a timely manner, collects a brief history and determines, based on the initial assessment, caller’s needs and if the caller is at risk for harm to self or others.
  • Follows designated workflows to provide each caller with the appropriate interventions and level of care.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate levels of care to include Mobile Crisis, outpatient MH services and community resources, as indicated.
  • As a member of an interdisciplinary leadership team, will collaborate with the Program Director for MCT and CCL to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Incorporates and monitors adherence to policies and procedures to maintain standards of care.
  • In collaboration with the Program Director for MCT and CCL, maintains staffing schedule to support timely access to services.
  • Provides coverage and accessibility for vacations and sick calls, as needed.
  • Completes time approval and monitors clinician’s time, attendance, and adherence to applicable policies.
  • Assists in recruitment, hiring and onboarding activities for staff in the service.
  • Attends Social Work Division, Social Work in Psychiatry and Program staff meetings.
  • Participates in activities of the Social Work and Psychiatry Division Psychiatry Division including, but not limited to, ensuring policies and procedures are implemented regarding professional practice, discharge planning and patient care, timely completion of time reporting and other Hospital or Division forms, Documents treatment in patient’s electronic medical record in compliance with Division, Department, and Hospital Policy.
  • Hospital and Division mandatory in-service training programs and UHS reviews.
  • Participates in routine committee process of the Social Work Division and facilitates Division and Hospital quality assurance and staff development activities.
  • Subscribes to the departmental goal of creating a culturally competent environment by treating patients, families, trainees, and co-workers in a sensitive manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences.
  • Participates in available cultural competency events and training appropriate to job duties.
  • Assists with supporting the interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, which may include discussion of clinical cases, educational opportunities and professional development.
  • Ensures that proper treatment and referral protocols are followed with respect to child abuse, domestic violence, consultation with specialty clinics, and referral both within and outside of SMH.
  • Based on experience and as determined by the social work supervisor, the social worker may supervise social work or other master’s level graduate students.
  • Upon invitation from the Program Director and in consultation with the social work supervisor, he/she may offer learning experiences for psychiatric residence, medical students, and family medicine residence.
  • Supervision relates to psychosocial assessment and intervention with patients and their families.
  • Based on experience/interest, may participate in interdisciplinary research as determined by the Social Work Supervisor, in consultation with the Social Work Clinical Manager in Psychiatry.
