About The Position

The SCADA Substations Supervisor will be responsible for assisting in leading project coordination, system design support, device configuration and deployment, regulatory compliance, and maintenance support for the transmission and substation side of the Duquesne Light Company (DLC) SCADA system. This position requires a deep understanding of process control and the Monarch SCADA platform, along with Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and internal business processes. By leveraging strong organizational and system-oriented technical skills, the supervisor will help define, prioritize, and execute on the comprehensive definition, training, and oversight of substation SCADA work and its intersections with other business units. The ideal candidate is an adaptable, organized problem solver capable of leading as a hands-on subject-matter-expert while overseeing end-to-end application and SCADA asset design and implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience, including process control, systems engineering, and team leadership.
  • Technical Proficiency – Strong hands-on experience with SCADA platforms, databases, and RTUs. Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and enhance SCADA applications, systems, and processes.
  • Process Analysis – Skilled in evaluating and documenting business processes to identify opportunities for efficiencies and improvements.
  • Supervisory & Leadership – Experience overseeing a team, delegating tasks, providing guidance, and ensuring timely and quality delivery of SCADA releases.
  • Communication & Collaboration – Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Management – Able to build productive relationships with business users and IT teams, and confidently gather and clarify requirements.
  • Problem Solving – Analytical thinker with a proactive approach to identifying issues, resolving roadblocks, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Documentation – Strong attention to detail in creating and maintaining documentation for workflows, system changes, and team knowledge sharing.
  • Metrics & Reporting – Ability to define success metrics, track performance of automation initiatives, and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Adaptability – Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and the flexibility to support after-hours deployments when needed.
  • Security & Compliance Awareness – Understanding of CIP standards and cybersecurity best practices, as well as DLC regulatory internal requirements and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team responsible for design, implementation, maintenance, and compliance of the transmission and substation side of the DLC SCADA system, both servers and field equipment
  • Provide leading subject-matter-expertise and support for transmission and substation work in the DLC SCADA system
  • Coordinate with leaders within the Operations Applications vertical to holistically support the Monarch SCADA platform and control environment in both an On-Call and daily work capacity
  • Manage and refine the intake process and backlog of SCADA requests; prioritize tasks using agile practices where applicable.
  • Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics related to SCADA projects.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and stakeholders to assess needs and planned releases .
  • Ensure adherence to process control best practices in service of system reliability and safety
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and internal knowledge articles related to SCADA applications, processes, and platforms; build training programs for knowledge transfer across Operations Applications teams
  • Trains and develops staff.
  • Plans the workflow.
  • Directs available resources to accomplish process improvement.
  • Leads workflow changes and implementations for direct team .
  • Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
