About The Position

The Safety and Security Supervisor for the Central Office has the primary goal of ensuring the best practices and integrity of security operations across all school campuses, administrative buildings, and athletic facilities throughout the district. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students and staff. The position requires a strong understanding of security measures, emergency management, and the ability to work effectively within a school district setting. Employees are expected to model professional conduct, maintain clear boundaries with students, use approved communication channels, and promptly report any suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law. Compliance with these expectations is a condition of employment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years working in a school setting required
  • Experience in a security-related field and emergency management preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Experience in evaluating, planning, coordinating, and implementing security and emergency management measures.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, Google Docs, and other software to increase job efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools, work sites, and to perform required work as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment.
  • Knowledge of how school district buildings and facilities are organized.
  • Knowledge of best safety and security practices for school district buildings and facilities.
  • Employees are expected to model professional conduct, maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with students, use district-approved channels for communications, and avoid interactions that could be perceived as favoritism, grooming, or undue familiarity.
  • Staff must promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities as required by Alabama law.
  • Employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.
  • A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits of security measures throughout the district and compile related audit reports.
  • Assist with emergency operation plan completion and implementation.
  • Assist with security and emergency management drills and tabletop exercises.
  • Assist with annual mandatory safety training completion and implementation.
  • Assess overall security and emergency management posture of school district buildings and facilities.
  • Serve as liaison between security officers and district.
  • Serve as liaison between school resource officers and district.
  • Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
