The Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor of the Coding/Audit team will support DaVita’s HIM Coding and Audit operations. This position assists in developing or revising procedures to achieve maximum efficiency with the coding and auditing processes, mentors new and/or existing staff to achieve maximum autonomy and professional knowledge, and provides problem resolution for internal and external partners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive: Directly supervises health information management staff, delegates responsibilities, coordinates work assignments, and provides cost-effective management of resources for the HIM team’s coding and audit department. Assumes full supervisory responsibility and/or input into decisions concerning recruitment, training, professional development, performance management, and retention of direct reports. Collaborate with the Manager, as necessary, to supervise the coding and auditing teammates and ensure the daily operations of the Coding and Audit team processes. This includes monitoring the quality and quantity of workflow to ensure the completion of work assignments and providing interpretation of function and department policy. Assists with the preparation and delivery of Monthly Management Reports. Performs Monthly Quality Assurance audits for Health Information Specialists and Coding Auditors for the Coding and Audit team functions. Identifies and implements improvement measures that will enhance department operations and customer service. Identifies, investigates, and evaluates practices and processes to facilitate continuous quality improvement in complete and accurate medical record documentation. Assists in employee actions such as scheduling and training of health information management employees and addresses work rule violations and performance issues under the direction of senior leadership. Performs competency assessments in all areas of responsibility within health information management. Works with department management to develop processes that identify opportunities for coding and documentation improvement and implements those improvements. Attends continuing education programs and demonstrates self-direction in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge. Travel: 15% Teammate Management Provides leadership to direct reports. Addresses teammate relations issues appropriately and escalates as necessary. Manages all teammate employment activities. Plans department duties, organizes work, and supervises teammates. Performs other duties as assigned.
