About The Position

This leadership role within the Respiratory Service line is responsible for both inpatient and outpatient services. The Supervisor, Respiratory Therapy oversees the day-to-day operations of the respiratory therapy department, ensuring team members safely and proficiently perform their duties. This includes organizing and supervising daily workflow, creating department schedules, and reallocating resources based on patient census and acuity. The role involves discussing patient treatment plans with physicians and clinical team members, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies. Key focuses include promoting employee engagement, process improvement, patient satisfaction, and workplace safety, while maintaining positive interpersonal relationships and providing direct patient care or consultation as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy
  • Three years of clinical experience
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Licensed by the State of Wisconsin
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the performance of assessment, reassessment, development, and implementation of the patient’s respiratory plan of care.
  • Consults with other disciplines as may be required to coordinate patient care services.
  • Is accountable for day-to-day operations including team member performance expectations, implementation of action plans, work processes, scheduling, and resource management to support patient demand.
  • Oversees development of standards of care, preferred practice patterns, protocols, and clinical procedures using evidence-based practice to ensure quality care.
  • Provides oversight, feedback, and education to ensure accurate billing, coding to maximize reimbursement, and compliance.
  • Develops and evaluates standards for assigned units in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintains necessary documentation for accreditation purposes as well as operational delivery.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment as required for units.
  • Maintains liaison with equipment and supply vendors to maximize best practices.
  • Facilitates educational activities necessary to enhance and maintain mandatory service, specific competencies, and continuing education programs to team members.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to members of the healthcare team.
  • Assists in determining fiscal requirements for budgetary recommendations.
  • Compiles data for operational reports and analyzes progress and trends, and makes appropriate recommendations to enhance strategic effectiveness.
  • Proactively ensures positive patient experience and provides service recovery to support putting the patient and family first.
  • Assists in evaluation of equipment purchases to balance best practice with financial prudence.
