About The Position

General supervisory duties of the REI laboratory supervisor include staffing, scheduling, yearly reviews and other personnel matters. The supervisor ensures staff provides high quality, accessible, care and patient focused services to members across the continuums, which comply with local, state and federal requirements. Implements and maintains clinical practice standards, clinical environmental standards and policies, budgets and staff development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in high-complexity testing within an REI or IVF laboratory is required.
  • Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) certification by the CDPH is required.
  • Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to conduct analysis and formulate conclusions.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge and in-depth understanding of chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science and medical technology.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in all aspects of clinical andrology procedures, including manual diagnostic semen analysis, therapeutic sperm processing and sperm cryopreservation.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in performing endocrine testing.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.
  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Technical Supervisor (TS) certification by the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) preferred.
  • A master’s degree may substitute for 2 years of this experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of duties for other REI lab staff, including staffing, scheduling, and other duties according to laboratory specifications.
  • Ensures staff provides high quality, accessible, cost effective care and patient focused services to patients across the continuum in compliance with local, state and federal requirements.
  • Helps develop and maintain clinical standards of care and practice; responsible for resource budgeting and allocation. Implements and ensures adherence to standard operating procedures for the labs.
  • Liaison between laboratory staff, operational leadership and physicians.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and competency evaluations
  • Oversees and monitors QA, QI and QC as delegated by the lab director, including proficiency testing.
  • Assists with development of goals for the REI Laboratory; monitor testing and quality control. Sets clear and specific tasks/goals for employees.
  • Troubleshoot issues, communicate and report findings to laboratory director.
  • Is accessible to laboratory personnel at all times to answer questions regarding testing, problem solving, or issues that may arise.
  • Demonstrates and articulates Patient Safety Goals; pro-actively mentors peers/team to contribute to Patient Safety practices and help to improve competencies.
  • Provides Training of REI lab staff.
  • Assists Lab Director in accreditation/certification and compliance activities.
  • Performs administrative duties including management of inventories, ordering of supplies, general and preventative maintenance of the lab equipment.
