About The Position

Under the supervision of the Recycling Program Manager, provides supervision during vocational training service duties. Supervisor works in conjunction with corpsmembers providing vocational training instruction. Performs and assists others in work related to the day-to-day operation of the Local Conservation Corps (LCC) job training programs. Assists in the fulfillment of the organization's vision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years paid work experience related to recycling or related field/industry and demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience required.
  • Physical Examination – Physician clearance required.
  • Familiar with standard inventory practices, effectively minimizing loss of tools, equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of employment and maintain current thereafter.
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass criminal background checks including but not limited to California Department of Justice and FBI.
  • Demonstrated experience in training and supervising corpsmembers on proper use, handling, and maintenance of job-related vehicle, tools, equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Familiar with standard inventory practices; able to effectively minimize loss of tools, equipment, supplies and materials
  • Supervises and conducts work skill, safety, and equipment training for corpsmembers related to a variety of recycling projects; assures the safety of corpsmembers during all work tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience in training on customer service skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with corpsmembers, staff and management in a professional manner.
  • Strong organizational ability.
  • Goal orientated; possess ability to structure workload to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, leading and maintaining a positive and productive work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and effectively supervising an ethnically diverse population of unskilled young adults with multiple barriers to employment.
  • Ability to be a leader and a positive role model for corpsmembers; be actively involved and supportive of their vocational training and educational goals.
  • Supervises crew, including implementation of policies and procedures consistent with LCC Corpsmember Handbook and partner requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching corpsmembers to resolve behavioral issues and other barriers to their vocational field training and other corps requirements; implement disciplinary measures when needed within the guidelines of the LCC Corpsmember Handbook.
  • Demonstrated interest in and dedication to serving the community; a basic understanding of poverty, its causes and conditions and impact on individuals and communities is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related business software.
  • Effective presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willing to work non-traditional hours and days to meet the needs of this position.
  • Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, adequate auto insurance as required by State law, and insurability by organizations carrier for those driving organization vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and supervises an ethnically diverse population of unskilled young adults with multiple barriers to employment.
  • Provides responsible supervision during job training and service learning/community service events.
  • Supervises corpsmembers and crew, including implementation of policies and procedures consistent with LCC Corpsmember Handbook.
  • Supervises and conducts vocational, safety, and equipment training for corpsmembers in the areas of recycling including but not limited to: CRV, tires, e-waste, oil, and other related duties.
  • Serves as a role model for corpsmembers, including active involvement and support of their field training and educational goals.
  • Complete quarterly corpsmember work evaluations and quarterly field nomination(s) for awards in a timely and effective manner.
  • Mentors and coaches corpsmembers to resolve behavioral issues and other barriers to their vocational field training and other corps requirements.
  • Implements disciplinary/restorative measures when needed within the guidelines of the LCC Corpsmember Handbook including required documentation.
  • Administers safety training related to the worksite, assuring the safety of corpsmembers during all work tasks.
  • Provides comprehensive customer service to clients and program partners, which includes training corpsmembers in customer service techniques.
  • Effectively structures workload to meet deadlines.
  • Develops, leads and maintains a positive and productive work environment.
  • Delivers high quality and timely completion of all jobs, projects and related services to the satisfaction of the client, program partners, and LCC management.
  • Ensures that assigned vehicle, tools, equipment, materials and supplies are maintained and in good and safe working order.
  • Completes and submits all required forms and reports (e.g. daily crew assignment log and report; vehicle logs and gas receipts, equipment repair orders, corpsmember evaluations, corpsmember award nominations, etc.) are completed in a timely manner and submitted as required to supervisor.
  • Safely transports corpsmembers to and from worksites throughout Fresno County and surrounding counties in LCC vehicle including but not limited to: pickup truck, passenger car, box truck, flat-bed truck or van. May include connecting and safely pulling bumper-pull or gooseneck, dual axle trailer, etc.
  • Travels for work related business using reliable transportation/ organization vehicle.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Works evenings and weekends as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
