This role involves supervising hourly employees, requiring the capability to train, motivate, and organize the workforce. The position demands technical skills to guide continual improvement projects and is responsible for the safety, quality, and efficiency of assigned processes. Daily production reports and the maintenance of Daily Management System communication boards are key duties. The role also includes accountability for logging and tracking material consumption and the flexibility to work any shift to support the production plan. This is a working supervisor role, meaning the individual will spend a portion of their time performing the work they supervise. The role requires analyzing information to solve ongoing problems and implementing procedures to complete work, with responsibility for team results and direction based on extensive knowledge of established precedents and practices, involving consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 3-5 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • May be requested to work a different shift.
  • This position is Safety-Sensitive.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise hourly employees.
  • Train, motivate and organize work force.
  • Provide guidance and direction for continual improvement projects.
  • Responsible for the safety, quality and efficiency of assigned processes.
  • Complete daily production reports and maintain Daily Management System communication boards.
  • Proper logging and tracking of material consumed on assigned production operations.
  • Supervises production operations for assigned units or during an assigned shift.
  • Supervises workers that operate production machinery, assemble items, perform quality control, or package goods for shipment.
  • Notifies maintenance or engineering departments when equipment requires maintenance or repair.
  • Monitors output of assigned area(s) against established schedules or quality goals.
  • Coordinates the flow of work through the department and ensures that department has sufficient levels of inventory to meet demand and is staffed appropriately.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has some responsibility for personnel actions related to hiring, performance, and disciplinary actions with concurrence from the HR Directors & General Managers.
