About The Position

The P IY CIP STATION OPERATIONS Department of the P GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. This role is a Professional Supervisor. The position supervises daily operation and maintenance activities at the Campbell Industrial Park Power Plant.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of combustion turbines, boilers, steam turbines, diesel engines, water treatment systems, generators and auxiliary equipment; or similar.
  • Working knowledge of power plant operations and maintenance or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of computerized control systems and personal computer software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement, Accident Prevention Manual, General Information Manual, Code of Conduct, etc.
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement deployment system, principles, procedures, tools, and desired behaviors.
  • Demonstrated supervisory/leadership skills including professional written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the ability to work with a variety of individuals; and the willingness and ability to train others.
  • In-depth mechanical and troubleshooting skills for combustion turbines, boilers, steam turbines, generators and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to remain flexible in demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data related to equipment performance and maintenance requirements.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license.
  • Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy.
  • Multiple years (5-7) of related work experience in power production operations or maintenance.
  • Several years (3-5) supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and coordinates work activities for the safe and efficient operation of the Campbell Industrial Park (CIP) Power Plant generation and Barbers Point Tank Farm (BPTF) facilities including work assignments, problem analysis, training, safety, employee development, employee scheduling, etc.
  • Supervises and administers all CIP Operations Division personnel matters including performance appraisals and interviews, recognition of employee achievements, and disciplinary actions.
  • Provides day-to-day supervision to CIP Maintenance Division personnel and coordinates staffing and personnel issues with the CIP Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ensures that concise operating logs and necessary records are up-to-date and well-maintained to effectively trend the performance of the CIP Plant generation facilities and implements controls needed to optimize plant performance.
  • Supervises and coordinates water quality control, demineralized water production and chemical treatment programs.
  • Coordinates operational aspects of maintenance and engineering activities for the CIP and BPTF facilities.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes maintenance activities with the CIP Maintenance Supervisor from an operational perspective.
  • Supervises and directs day-to-day work activities for the BU maintenance personnel performing preventative maintenance.
  • Participates in design reviews and technical solutions for upgrades, improvements, and corrections.
  • Identifies process improvements.
  • Coordinates activities with System Operations.
  • Recognizes and responds to compliance issues for safety, environmental, Department of Transportation, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Supervises and coordinates wastewater treatment plant operations and directs technical adjustments of wastewater treatment process and equipment.
  • Prepares and submits reports to various parties relative to compliance.
  • Works with various departments, such as Environmental and Safety to ensure records are properly maintained.
  • Responds to major abnormal condition of plant equipment and systems operations.
  • Compiles written reports and participates in the design, implementation, and monitoring of permanent fixes for equipment and system problems.
  • Schedules fuel oil deliveries and chemical deliveries, ensuring the CIP facility maintains adequate supply levels.
  • Models behaviors consistent with Company values.
  • Works with others to accomplish goals and objectives and maintain improvement in practices and procedures.
  • Promotes teamwork, reinforces and mentors subordinates in the application of improvement tools, techniques, and behaviors to expose and eliminate waste from daily work assignments.
  • Effectively applies the Daily Management System methods to continuously improve the safety, quality, speed, timeliness, and cost of all work processes within assigned span of control.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
