About The Position

Supervises a team responsible for the repair of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation & control equipment at all Tucson Power Production power plants to ensure optimum generating capabilities. Leads union employees and maintains a safe and compliant work environment. Manages day-to-day activities involving construction projects, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, maintenance outages/overhauls, and other duties as assigned. Serves as a stakeholder in O&M and Capital projects to ensure compliance and acceptable results are produced.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver License in good standing.
  • Minimum six (6) years power plant experience as a Journeyman Mechanic, Welder, Machinist, Instrument Technician, Electrician, Control Room Operator, Maintenance Planner or Supervisor or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Must possess computer skills necessary to complete job requirements.
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience with Combustion Turbines.
  • Experience with Rankine steam cycle.
  • Experience with Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines.
  • Knowledge of plant processes and operations, equipment, parts and plant layout.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision.
  • Knowledge of labor agreement terms and conditions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, TEP policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees and monitors activities, including safety, prioritizing, work flow allocation, staffing/scheduling, fatigue management, and performance reviews.
  • Provides direction to employees, resolves technical questions and employee relations issues to provide accurate and consistent direction and interpretations.
  • Completes employee performance reviews and provides feedback during mid-cycle updates.
  • Applies knowledge of assigned area and overall plant processes to resolve maintenance and operations problems.
  • Ensures all work is performed safely, environmentally compliant, per OEM recommendations, and consistent with industry best practices.
  • Reviews area operations to identify processes/procedures/operations improvements.
  • Recognizes and anticipates employee training needs to ensure all team employees have the necessary skills.
  • Provides assessment of employee training needs, recommends training plans, and ensures employees obtain appropriate training.
  • Coordinates and interfaces with other Power Generation sections to ensure maintenance and operations activities are scheduled effectively.
  • Identifies viable alternatives and plans activities to limit time delays, equipment downtime, and load reduction.
  • Plans for equipment outages by scheduling outside contractors and temporary staffing, procuring parts, and assigning work to the team.
  • Ensures plant equipment is functioning as scheduled after an outage.
  • Develops specifications for work to be performed by outside contractors, oversees work in progress, and inspects work upon completion.
  • Assures work performed by outside contractors is completed to specification and on schedule.
  • Develops specifications, sources vendors, and requisitions parts, supplies, and equipment.
  • Procures the highest quality parts, supplies, and equipment at the most cost-effective price.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate records and record-keeping systems.
  • Manages group budget to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date personnel, budget, and job cost information.
  • Estimates costs and analyzes actual cost variances from budget and explains differences.
  • Ensures that the Company’s management principles, policies, and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Assumes fiduciary responsibility for operating the business and provides recommendations on cost improvement measures.
  • Ensures that the Performance Management program is administered uniformly and effectively.
  • Complies with and administers the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement when applicable.
  • Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel.
  • Participates in hiring, termination, promoting, assignment, and direction of staff.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and standards, company policies, practices, and ethical obligations to investigate, evaluate, and recommend appropriate resolution to employee complaints.
  • Promotes and participates in the professional development, personal growth, and career planning of staff.
  • Motivates, recognizes and rewards, coaches, counsels, trains; provides feedback to employees during performance reviews.
  • Participates in Leadership Development programs.
  • Addresses disciplinary and/or performance issues according to company policy, and communicates effectively with employees regarding corrective action.
  • Has input into the adjustment of grievances and administration of discipline.
  • Plans day-to-day operations, estimates personnel needs, and schedules and assigns work.
  • Evaluates the structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group.
