About The Position

Performs work involving supervision of the phlebotomy section of the laboratory. Ensures patient care and specimen processing are provided in a way that meets customer needs in an efficient and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of regulations governing laboratory services.
  • Basic understanding of financial and statistical tools.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide compassionate patient care orientation.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and driven
  • PBT(ASCP) and/or MT/MLT (ASCP) is required.
  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required
  • PBT(ASCP) or CLPIB (NCA) or MLT/MT(ASCP) or Equivalent Required
  • 5 years of experience in Healthcare/Medical Laboratory setting Required
  • Meets the Standards of Behavior as outlined in Personnel Policy and Procedure #1, Employee Relations Code.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures for protecting and maintaining security, confidentiality and integrity of employee, patient, family, organizational and other medical information. Understands and supports the commitment of Methodist Hospitals in adhering to federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing ethical business practices for healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes, maintains, and monitors mechanisms which ensures timely and accurate processing of inpatient and outpatient requests. Prepares and adjusts work schedules and assignments as needed.
  • Participates actively in the selection and training of employees. Develops systems to evaluate employee performance on a regular basis. Provides coaching, guidance, and counseling as needed.
  • Writes, reviews, and updates departmental Policies and Procedures. Assures compliance with the approved Policies and Procedures.
  • Identifies, develops, and analyzes performance improvement indicators for the department. Promotes a safe work environment.
  • Reviews the Monthly Financial Reports. Assures that Variances are properly explained. Meets the Productivity targets.
  • Interacts with internal and external customers in a professional manner to address concerns and takes steps to resolve these. Interacts with outreach clients to ensure that client's expectations are met in a professional way. Actively participates in evaluating and improving Patient Satisfaction Scores.
  • Actively participates in the successful development and management of the Outreach (MethCare) program.
  • Develops systems to manage inventory. Takes necessary steps to reduce waste and optimize resource utilization.
