About The Position

Performs work involving supervision of the phlebotomy section of the laboratory. Ensures patient care and specimen processing are provided in a way that meets customer needs in an efficient and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of regulations governing laboratory services.
  • Basic understanding of financial and statistical tools.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide compassionate patient care orientation.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and driven
  • PBT(ASCP) and/or MT/MLT (ASCP) is required.
  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required
  • PBT(ASCP) or CLPIB (NCA) or MLT/MT(ASCP) or Equivalent Required
  • 5 years of experience in Healthcare/Medical Laboratory setting Required
  • Meets the Standards of Behavior as outlined in Personnel Policy and Procedure #1, Employee Relations Code.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures for protecting and maintaining security, confidentiality and integrity of employee, patient, family, organizational and other medical information.
  • Understands and supports the commitment of Methodist Hospitals in adhering to federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing ethical business practices for healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes, maintains, and monitors mechanisms which ensures timely and accurate processing of inpatient and outpatient requests.
  • Prepares and adjusts work schedules and assignments as needed.
  • Participates actively in the selection and training of employees.
  • Develops systems to evaluate employee performance on a regular basis.
  • Provides coaching, guidance, and counseling as needed.
  • Writes, reviews, and updates departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Assures compliance with the approved Policies and Procedures.
  • Identifies, develops, and analyzes performance improvement indicators for the department.
  • Promotes a safe work environment.
  • Reviews the Monthly Financial Reports.
  • Assures that Variances are properly explained.
  • Meets the Productivity targets.
  • Interacts with internal and external customers in a professional manner to address concerns and takes steps to resolve these.
  • Interacts with outreach clients to ensure that client's expectations are met in a professional way.
  • Actively participates in evaluating and improving Patient Satisfaction Scores.
  • Actively participates in the successful development and management of the Outreach (MethCare) program.
  • Develops systems to manage inventory.
  • Takes necessary steps to reduce waste and optimize resource utilization.
