About The Position

Supervises and coordinates staff in the planning of Pharmacy activities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. Prepares, compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical products using standard physical and chemical procedures to fill written prescriptions/medication orders. Reviews written prescriptions/medication orders for accuracy, completeness and issuance by an authorized prescriber. Maintains documentation for regulatory, quality, safety, clinical, and financial compliance. Supervises, facilitates and evaluates pharmacy staff, financials, operations and clinical services including, but not limited to, staff scheduling and assignments, revenue integrity, process improvement initiatives, quality control and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Ensures pharmacy services are processed efficiently, accurately, and in a cost-effective manner to achieve exceptional patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Pharmacy with relevant hospital experience required.
  • Current License to practice as a Pharmacist in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 4-6 years of relevant hospital experience required OR pharmacy residency training (PGY-1 or PGY-2) with 1-3 years of relevant hospital experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership and/or management experience, education, training, or certification preferred.
  • Experience with EPIC (Willow Pharmacy) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines and evaluates the performance of assigned Pharmacy staff.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Supervises clinical pharmacy services within the hospital setting including medication preparation, dispensing, and supervision of pharmacy operations and personnel.
  • Assists in establishing, updating and maintaining the Pharmacy computer system, and maintains all patient medication charges, pharmaceutical supplies and controlled substance files.
  • Supervises pharmacists and technicians in compounding medications, filling written prescriptions/medication orders, medication requests and daily activities.
  • Dispenses medications in accordance with established policy and procedure including reviewing orders for completeness, interactions, incompatibilities and other inconsistencies.
  • Regularly communicates with pharmacy staff concerning information obtained on hospital and pharmacy operations, or medications information such as warnings, drug compatibility and incompatibility or other pharmaceuticals.
  • Assures compliance with controlled substance handling and dispensing, diversion surveillance, and regulatory reporting requirements as per organization policies and procedures and per government regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains pharmacy quality, financial, safety, operational and regulatory compliance within organizational expectations and government regulatory agencies; in collaboration with other leadership and the pharmacy team.
  • Provides consultation and answers inquiries from patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication utilization, pharmacy operations, or hospital policy and procedures.
