About The Position
The RCM - Supervisor Patient Access Services is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of frontline Patient Access staff within assigned hospital service areas (e.g., Emergency Department, Admitting, Same Day Surgery, Labor & Delivery). As needed, this role will also provide oversight to other patient access areas across one or more hospital locations. This role supports accurate patient registration, insurance verification, financial clearance, and delivery of positive patient experience. The Supervisor works under the direction of the Manager of Patient Access Services and assists in maintaining operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and staff performance standards. The Supervisor provides direct oversight of frontline staff and serves as a resource for registration workflow, system questions, and customer service concerns.
Requirements
- Experience in Patient Access, registration, or front-end revenue cycle operations within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Working knowledge of insurance verification and financial clearance processes.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and function effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in Patient Access or hospital registration required.

- Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred.
- Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Experience in a unionized healthcare environment preferred.
- Experience with EPIC preferred.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily Patient Access activities to ensure timely and accurate registration, insurance capture, and documentation.
- Monitor staff productivity and quality performance; provide real-time feedback and coaching.
- Escalate operational issues, system concerns, or workflow barriers to the Manager as appropriate.
- Assist with staffing assignments and coverage to ensure adequate departmental support.
- Reinforce compliance with payer requirements, regulatory standards, and organizational policies.
- Maintain working knowledge of registration processes, insurance verification, and financial clearance workflows.
- Support compliance with HIPAA privacy and security standards.
- Ensure adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Supervise frontline Patient Access representatives, including scheduling, attendance monitoring, and performance feedback.
- Support onboarding and training of new staff in collaboration with department leadership.
- Provide ongoing coaching to reinforce customer service standards (e.g., AIDET) and registration accuracy.
- Address routine employee concerns and escalate complex matters to the Manager and/or Human Resources.
- Support management of staff performance in accordance with 1199 collective bargaining agreements.
- Participate in counseling sessions and corrective action processes under the guidance of the Manager and Human Resources.
- Maintain effective working relationships with Human Resources and Labor Relations.
- Serve as the first point of contact for staff regarding workflow questions and operational issues.
- Communicate departmental updates and expectations from leadership to frontline staff.
- Partner with clinical units and internal departments to resolve patient access-related issues in real time.
Benefits
- The salary range for the role is $78,884.00 - $118,326.00 Annually.
