About The Position

The Supervisor, Pathology provides supervisory oversight of the pathology service line operations across the Health First Integrated Delivery Network (IDN), and is accountable in supporting the service needs of the IDNs functions, processes, regulatory requirements, and operations. The Supervisor, Pathology supports the Director, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and Manager, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology on execution of Health First’s Mission and Vision. The Supervisor, Pathology Provides frontline leadership of daily lab operations to the pathology department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Lab Science, Biology, or a relevant field.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in pathology as a Histology Technician, Technologist or Cytologist.
  • Histology Supervisor licensure in the State of Florida.
  • Cytology Supervisor licensure in the State of Florida.
  • General leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact productively and effectively with associates, leaders, clinicians, staff, and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Prior leadership experience in pathology environment.
  • Scientist in Histology (HTL) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily operations of the pathology service line across the IDN to include Specimen Processing, Histology, Cytology, and Professional Pathology services, consistent with the mission and vision of Health First.
  • Supporting the laboratory leadership team by remaining accountable to all accreditation agencies ensuring the laboratory’s successful compliance with its regulatory requirements (CAP, TJC, FL State, OSHA, etc.).
  • Maintains a safe work environment for laboratory Associates, as outlined by various accreditation agencies.
  • Oversees daily quality control operations and aligns department with laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) program.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with inter-professional departments and ongoing partnership with other leaders of Health First leadership team to ensure IDN goals are achieved.
  • Commits to a culture of “Continuous Quality Improvement” through incorporation of evidenced based laboratory medicine, benchmarking, and implementation of recommended guidelines.
  • Manages resources allotted to assigned laboratory department.
  • Serves and performs all functions of a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) general supervisor for the laboratory in all sections of responsibility.
  • Engages with laboratory team regarding constant and proactive communication of departmental goals, wins, ongoing projects, and changes within the Health First.
  • Define and communicate a clear, compelling vision for the team that effectively ties into the mission and vision of Health First, and inspirationally lead the team to achieve that vision.
  • Provide leadership, motivation, coaching, feedback and support to foster and strengthen growth and development of an effective, high performing team.
  • Lead change through effective communication, explaining the connection and value to the organization, creating stronger buy-in and urgency, while understanding impact to the team to obtain commitment.
  • Demonstrate openness to hearing diverse ideas and thoughts; create a sense of inclusivity; and encourage collaboration across teams to help break down silos to meet the team’s and organization’s goals.
