About The Position

The Children's Center of Hamden is seeking an experienced and collaborative Supervisor of Special Education (SOSE) to oversee educational programming at Whitney Hall School. Reporting to the Vice President of Education and working closely with the Principal, this position provides leadership for special education services, instructional programming, regulatory compliance, staff development, and student achievement. As a key member of the leadership team, the SOSE collaborates with educators, families, local school districts, and state agencies to ensure students receive high-quality, individualized educational services in a safe and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of educational leadership or administrative experience, preferably in a special education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of special education regulations, instructional practices, and educational program management.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining compliance and attention to detail.
  • Connecticut Certification in School Administration and Supervision (092 Endorsement).
  • Connecticut Certification in Special Education or Pupil Services.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in private special education, therapeutic schools, residential treatment settings, or alternative education programs.
  • Experience collaborating with school districts, state agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for educational programming, special education services, and instructional quality at Whitney Hall School.
  • Ensure compliance with Connecticut State Department of Education requirements and all applicable special education regulations.
  • Supervise, support, evaluate, and develop certified and non-certified educational staff.
  • Participate in recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management activities.
  • Chair and oversee Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and review educational evaluations, assessments, and documentation.
  • Maintain special education records and ensure accurate reporting to districts, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to develop curriculum, monitor student progress, and support positive educational outcomes.
  • Coordinate professional development, teacher supervision, internships, and instructional coaching.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and support strategic planning efforts related to educational services.
  • Serve as a liaison with local education agencies, the Connecticut State Department of Education, the Department of Children and Families, and other partners.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive educational environment.
  • Participate in Agency meetings, trainings, and special projects as assigned.
