About The Position

The Supervisor of Central Sterile Processing (CSP) is responsible for the activities related to the house-wide sterilization, care, preparation, and maintenance of all surgical instruments and supplies. This position serves as a key contact and resource for Operating Room and house-wide sterile processing questions and issues. This position supervises the daily activities of staff while adhering to Occupational Health & Safety Act (OSHA), The Joint Commission (TJC), and State Board of Health regulations. Requirements

  • High School Diploma Required
  • 1 year Sterile Processing Required
  • 1 year Management/Supervisory Required
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within 90 days Required

Responsibilities

  • Maintains open communications with the Sterile Processing management staff, O.R. staff, Surgeons, physicians, and other nursing staff; also establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with ancillary/support departments.
  • Maintains open communications with the Operating Room (O.R.) staff, Infection Control Practitioners and the Bio-communications for the purpose of delivering and coordinating quality patient care.
  • Ensures operational compliance with legal, regulatory and institutional requirements by following the procedures and standards of quality for decontamination, preparation, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in people management activities for direct team members such as conducting performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and interviews.
  • Maintains an effective cost control and inventory control system, inventory supply levels and preparing requisitions for required supplies and equipment.
  • Supervises the work of others and manages the performance of individuals through feedback and recommendations.
  • Reviews and evaluates, on an ongoing basis, the flow of work through the Sterile Processing and surgical case cart areas; also identifying areas where operational efficiencies need improvement.
  • Evaluates the quality and quantity of the work performed by the Surgical Instrument Technicians.
  • Develops effective professional working relationships with the O.R. staff and facilitates the same between staff and physicians for the purpose of delivering and coordinating quality patient care.
  • Coordinates with end-user departments to review product additions and deletions and assisting in the transition process of product conversion.
  • Maintains and distributes hazard communication information in the department as appropriate.
