About The Position

This position maintains responsibility and accountability for the quality of patient care rendered and is the administrative representative for both internal and external contacts during the designated shift. Remains available for all departments as a resource person, to aid in problem solving, to evaluate and decide on course of action for any crisis that may arise, to prioritize and coordinate activity and actively participate in staff development.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Within 1 month of hire or transfer
  • Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt (TEAM ADVANCED) - Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees who are in this position on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete this certification)
  • Fingerprinting
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) - Within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • Associates Degree
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree recommended.
  • BSN is preferred.
  • Two years of supervisory experience in at least a charge nurse capacity preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses intra-interdepartmental efforts in the delivery of health care to the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.
  • Plans activities and interventions in a manner that is conducive to patient centered care.
  • Implements activities to accomplish objectives for individual patients, nursing personnel, and other departments.
  • Evaluates services provided by the Department of Nursing. Evaluates and provides feedback to other departments as necessary.
  • Self-Management: Holds self accountable for delivery of responsible nursing care, demonstrates effective leadership style, communication skills and interpersonal relationships. Assumes responsibility for own continued professional development and assists with the development of other staff members.
  • Operates equipment as outlined on orientation checklists, policy and procedures.
  • Participates in equipment in-services and competencies as they relate to role expectations.
  • Performs job skills outlined on orientation checklist as they relate to role expectations.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement as required by the Hospital and the job description.
