The Supervisor Nursing Operations ensures administrative continuity for staff, patients, and families, acting as a liaison for the hospital executive director on call and the patient care services management team. This role is responsible for being aware of and responding to activities occurring within the entire hospital during assigned work hours. The Supervisor collaborates with Nursing Management and the Nursing Staffing Office to provide primary leadership in the appropriate placement of nursing staff for staffing decisions. They analyze trends in resource utilization, recommend changes, and provide consultation for patient placement in conjunction with Admitting, Bed Management, Clinics, and patient care areas. This role also coordinates and conducts Daily Debriefings, initiates decisions to escalate capacity management plans, and communicates this information accordingly. The Supervisor collaborates with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff to resolve clinical/operational issues and teams with Hospitalists in a co-management model to facilitate communication and throughput. They serve as a resource for policies, standards, performance issues, and disciplinary counsel, as well as for patient care quality, compliance, and regulatory standards, initiating action for resolution. The Supervisor acts as an on-site liaison for the Hospital Administrator on-call and provides information to the Office of Communications, Marketing, and Media. They communicate effectively, role-modeling behaviors congruent with Caring Science, and serve as an on-site liaison for Service Excellence issues. Additionally, the Supervisor ensures a biogenic environment that stimulates staff development in accordance with Shared Governance, Caring Science, and professional practice principles, fostering relationships that support continuous enhancement of care delivery and patient/staff satisfaction. They also ensure hospital disaster plans and policies are followed and represent the Chief Nursing Officer/Directors of Nursing with on-site operational and clinical leadership after normal business hours.
