About The Position

Works under minimal supervision to be responsible for performing a full range of technical expertise on modality specific imaging equipment including imaging procedures, exam protocols, accreditation, operation, and facilitation of equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Radiology or related field.
  • (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT accredited by the American Heart Association for Healthcare (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire
  • (ARRT) AMER REG OF RAD TECH Vocation specialty registered licensure as applicable; ARRT Upon Hire
  • (ARDMS) AMER REGIS DIAG MED SONO Vocation specialty registered licensure as applicable; ARDMS Upon Hire
  • (CNMT) CERT NUCLEAR MED TECH Vocation specialty registered licensure as applicable; CNMT Upon Hire
  • Vocation specialty registered licensure as applicable; TMB Medical Radiologic Technologist Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years of experience in medical imaging preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in a leadership role preferred
  • For Nuclear Medicine modality candidates, five (5) years of experience in Nuclear, Molecular, and Computed Tomography imaging strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates conscious effort to be good stewards of hospital resources to ensure UTSW financial goals are met.
  • Provide quotes from vendors for operational and/or capital budgets.
  • Ensures proper billing and coding of modality specific exams through charge reconciliations and order/CPT code deep dive reviews.
  • Attends departmental and modality specific meetings.
  • Secures required regulatory licensure for equipment (e.g., ACR, ICAVL, etc.).
  • Actively participates in all hospital regulatory compliance duties and audits.
  • Provides/creates competency on advanced equipment training for technologists.
  • Coordinates continuity of patient care to the varying locations.
  • Provides escalation and add on assistance with scheduling modality exams.
  • Coordinates with imaging leadership for staff scheduling, coverage, and payroll accuracy.
  • Provides technical input for employee evaluations, appraisals, and course corrective actions.
  • Input provided for new hires, promotion, discipline and other administrative tasks for technologists.
  • Establishes employee exam competency standards and assists in 180 day competency assessments.
  • Teaches at new hire orientation.
  • Teaches/oversees student and resident rotations in modality as applicable.
  • Provides education and training to technologists in the utilization of new equipment features or techniques.
  • Oversees training and development of technologists by providing guidance and direction relative to technical performance (readily available to travel to all facilities as needed).
  • Implements clinical protocols and establishes back up mechanisms on equipment to ensure continuity at all sites.
  • Acts as a liaison between technologists and radiologists for technical inquiries and resolves primordials with follow up email to the technologists and leadership for trends.
  • Assists leadership with staff compliance for clinical and operational protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides timely access to equipment, supplies, and logistical support to the Bio Medical and Physicists departments.
  • Functions as a technical leader/expert in appropriate modality.
  • Facilitates regular in-service training.
  • Assists with the implementation of new programs related to modality (software, research, educational).
  • Troubleshoots exam exceptions in PACS and Epic.
  • Available for assistance during scheduled downtime procedures.
  • Works with imaging department process improvement projects.
  • Demonstrates general working knowledge of all imaging equipment within modality.
  • Assists the physicians/committees/staff with building and maintaining protocols and insuring recorded outputs (radiation doses, etc.) per state/federal regulations.
  • Maintains continuity of protocols on modality machines across campus.
  • Secures and maintains modality accreditation by working with physicists, radiologists, and management as needed.
  • Functions as liaison between regulatory inspectors and management during annual inspections.
  • Investigates and addresses radiation doses (as applicable) utilizing dose recording software.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the preparation, maintenance, and accuracy of accreditation reports, database records, and logs.
  • Facilitates/follow-up with repairs and maintenance as needed on equipment and supplies.
  • Monitors and ensures QC/QA compliance with all relevant laws, state and federal regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements, hospital and departmental standards for safety, infection control and equipment performance.
  • Systematically reviews technologists' studies and coordinates additional training to maintain quality.
  • Coordinates new equipment demos during the equipment selection and purchasing process.
  • Provides input for outcomes and event reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
