This position can be on site or remote for East Coast candidates. The Supervisor of Medical Coding will plan, develop, implement, and communicate operational initiatives to improve the efficiency of the Medical Coding Department. This role oversees the planning, organization, and evaluation of patient demographic capture and system setup. The supervisor designs quality management monitors and workload measurement systems for productivity monitoring to ensure an efficient workflow process. They will review assessment of account performance and respond to concerns in a timely and professional manner. Collaboration with IT is expected to incorporate new technologies and functionality into the existing structure, and the supervisor will evaluate, design, and implement solutions for accessing, moving, and processing electronic data. This role serves as a liaison with the medical coding team and primary care offices to resolve issues. Responsibilities include carrying out duties in accordance with company policies, applicable regulations (including HIPAA and Labor regulations), overseeing all medical coding functions using clinical and financial systems, conducting coding audits for practice providers to optimize accurate documentation and coding, and overseeing the medical coding team regarding the Encounter Billing Exception Worklist (EBEW) and related worklists. The supervisor will establish and maintain a close working relationship with the PBO department to reduce and address claim issues and denials timely. They will conduct training and support professional development opportunities for staff to stay abreast of new coding and clinical guidelines. Knowledge of the practice’s charges and coding, in cooperation with the Charge Description Master (CDM) Manager and Health Information Services (HIS) Department is required. Participation in ongoing education relevant to practice specialty, assisting in training for new employees and coverage is also part of the role. The supervisor works closely with the Practice Leader and the RCA Supervisor to ensure all updates and changes are implemented timely. Maintaining a high level of confidentiality to protect patient health information privacy, while providing access to authorized individuals and entities, and safeguarding the integrity of electronic records is crucial. The role involves participation in standing cross-functional workgroups to facilitate resolution of systems and operational issues within Ellis Medical Group and across the enterprise. Adherence to hospital and procedures related to mandatory education and annual health assessments, MEE Behavior and Standards, and AIDET is expected. Collaboration with departments to resolve issues and overcome barriers is key.
