About The Position

As a Mechanical Supervisor, you’ll help manage the team that keeps our locomotive fleet running safely and efficiently. You’ll ensure compliance with FRA standards, oversee maintenance schedules, and troubleshoot technical issues—all while supporting a culture of safety and reliability. Requirements

  • Prior experience maintaining locomotives
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the maintenance and repair of locomotives’ mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of the safe handling and disposal of hazardous and nonhazardous waste products
  • Effective computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting, etc.)
  • Knowledge of FRA regulations pertaining to locomotives
  • Ability to train, manage, and supervise hourly employees
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other departments and supervisors
  • Experience working in a safety sensitive work environment
  • Possess situational awareness and decision-making abilities to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
  • May be subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening
  • Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history
  • Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years as a supervisor is a plus
  • Associate's degree in a related field is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulations
  • Maintain accurate employee safety records and schedule safety presentations, job briefings, and training sessions
  • Manage locomotive maintenance schedules and coordinate with Transportation when locomotives must be directed to the shop
  • Monitor locomotive dwell time to maximize locomotive availability
  • Assign and monitor work to ensure directives to employees are being followed
  • Assist in maintaining locomotive files that comply with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) periodic-inspection rules and G&W record retention
  • Implement and support approved repair and maintenance practices for locomotives
  • Maintain optimum inventory level to support repair activities ordering materials as required
  • Direct and assist employees with troubleshooting and repairs
  • Keep accurate records and reports in compliance with FRA regulations and company policy
  • Collaborate with others on repair strategies and project planning
  • Interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and repair instructions
  • Assist with projects and perform other duties as assigned
